Here’s Why I Don’t Do Clickbait and Don’t Endorse It Either.

No one enjoys deceptive, misinterpreted, sensationalized, and misleading titles. An interesting title is not necessarily clickbait.

This story reflects my feelings and perspectives on clickbait in story settings. I wrote this piece because a reader commented that my article titled “Fat Loss Has nothing to do with calories: Our hormones have the final say for fat burning.” is nice clickbait.

I always value reader feedback, positive or negative, but I am surprised by this specific comment which perceived my approach against my intention and action. This specific article delivers the title with a clear explanation and examples.

My understanding of clickbait is it is a deceptive, misinterpreted, sensationalized, and misleading title. An interesting title is not necessarily clickbait as long as the author delivers the promised premise in the article.

As a reader-focused author, after checking my article again, I don’t see any clickbait characteristics. For those who haven’t read the article, fat and weight loss are sensitive topics, and they differ in context and process.

We are unique and have different experiences related to health and fitness. I am aware that something that works for me may not necessarily work for others. There are many factors, such as metabolism, genes, and even gender differences, that play a role.

My purpose in my lifestyle articles is to give unique perspectives stemming from my experience coupled with and fact-checked review of the literature from the established body of knowledge.

I simply point out that you can lose weight with calories; however, with elevated hormones like insulin and cortisol, it is impossible to tap into fat stores as these hormones block the process. For many years, I counted calories, reduced food intake, and increased exercise, but I did not lose desired fat percentage.

Fat loss and weight loss are two different concepts. Fat loss aims to reduce fat from fat stores such as the abdominal area, thighs, and organs. In contrast, weight loss can include muscle loss, fluids, and glycogen. My desired goal is not weight loss but to eliminate excessive fat from my body. Nobody wants to lose valuable muscles.

As a reader and writer, I enjoy exciting and smart titles. As mentioned in this article, one of the most critical factors for a piece to be chosen by the reader is its title and subtitle. The article can be excellent, but if the title is not compelling and convincing to the reader, it loses its chance of being read. Most of the time, only stories with attractive and intelligent titles go viral.

Clickbait titles backfire and are not sustainable solutions for writers’ success.

I’d appreciate your feedback on the article.

Thank you for reading my perspectives. I wish you a healthy and happy life.
