This is a continuation of The Burned Village, a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. Head back to the previous instalment, ‘A Cowering Fox in a Hole’ or ‘A Sense of Sad Solitude’. Find out how to contribute by clicking here.

It’s getting dark, and you’re terrified the bear will return.

You attempt to find the spot near the edge of the forest where it first attacked. There were beech trees, dead leaves, and…

Damn. By this light, everything looks the same.

You move further. Perhaps, if she survived, Taryn made her way to the island with Piquantia’s mansion. You could search there…

You walk on into the darkness, feeling with every passing step that you’ll be lost and starve to death, or eaten.

But when you spot a stone path gleaming in the moonlight, a spring returns to your step!

Continue.
