How to upload videos to YouTube
Step by step guide for beginners
Purpose
We started a YouTube initiative for ILLUMINATION writers and poets to extend their stories and poems to YouTube.
One of the most frequently asked questions is how to upload videos to YouTube.
Instead of responding to each request, I thought it would be useful to create a story with instructions and provide it as a link to answer this common question.
So, the purpose of this story is to provide you with steps to upload your videos to YouTube. I also provide information on how to obtain a Manage access to ILLUMINATION YouTube channel.
Prerequisite
You need to be registered to YouTube with an email address.
You can only log in to YouTube and can be given access to a channel by using the email you registered.
Using other email addresses will not enable you to obtain Manage access to YouTube channels that you want to upload your videos.
Steps to upload videos to YouTube
Step 1
Start YouTube.com in your web browser.
Step 2
Log on YouTube using your Google account.
Step 3
Click on the icon of your channel on the right side of the screen.
In this example, the circle button on the right is my channel icon.
You will see a screen of your channel similar to the illustration below.
Step 4
Click on the YOUTUBE STUDIO button as highlighted in yellow circle.
You will see your channel dashboard.
Step 5
Click on one of the buttons circled in yellow.
Both buttons can take you to the same window to upload a video.
The following window appears.
Step 6
Click on the SELECT FILES button
It is the blue button shown in the following screen capture.
Step 7
Type the name of your video file in the File name field circled in yellow and click on the Open button.
The most common video name extension is MP4.
You can type *.MP4 to list all your video files in this box.
When you find and select an MP4 file in this area, you will see the following screen.
Step 8
Type the title name. This is a required action.
Step 9
Click on the NEXT button.
Step 9
In the next screen, you have two optional actions.
You can either import videos to enhance your current video or pass them. They are not required fields.
Step 10
From the visibility window, you choose Public as you want others view your video.
The Private option is for your view and the people you select.
The Unlisted option allows watching anyone with the video link.
You can also schedule your video from this window.
Step 11
Click on PUBLISH button as shown on the above screen capture.
That’s it.
Your video is published on your selected channel.
Specific Requirement for uploading ILLUMINATION channel
Since this channel belongs to our writers, to be able to upload videos to our channel, you need to have a Manage access to the channel.
How to obtain Manage access to ILLUMINATION channel
Please send me a request by providing the email address that you are registered for YouTube and your Medium account ID from this link.
As an administrator of this channel, I will provide you with Manage access.
Please remember to title your request as “YouTube Access” as I receive many other requests from this link.
