How to Transfer an Article From Illumination to Illumination-Curated
Please read it carefully to avoid any future inconvenience

Illumination stands for its writers — we are essentially a writer’s community. But some of the writers have not fully understood the fine points.
We have written complete curation guidelines, a step-by-step process explanation, and FAQs to help you to submit your stories.
All articles and stories must comply with Medium rules to be published by Illumination editors. If a writer breaks a rule, the editors will remove his or her story from the publication.
How can you transfer your stories from Illumination to Illumination-Curated and why?
You must understand a few details for transferring your articles from Illumination to Illumination-Curated and know your responsibilities as a writer:
Transfer from Illumination to Illumination-Curated
The writers can submit a draft to either Illumination or Illumination-Curated after Illumination adds them as a writer.
Once you are added as a writer, you’ll see the publication names in your list of publications.

The writers can move their ‘curated’ stories — previously published by Illumination — to Illumination-Curated.
How to transfer
- Remove your story from Illumination: While you are in the editing mode of the story, click on the three dots ‘…’ and select Remove from publication.

2. Add your story to Illumination-Curated: Now, you have to add your story to Illumination-Curated. In the edit mode, click on the three dots ‘…’ and select Add to publication.

3. One story in one publication rule: Your story can be published in only one of these publications at one time.
Why transfer
- If you submitted your story to Illumination and Medium curated it, you could transfer it to Illumination-Curated. You can do it on the same day or after a few days — it is your choice. Even moving a story to Illumination-Curated is a decision that every writer has to make, and it is not obligatory in any way.
- If Medium does not curate your story but you think that your story is a masterpiece — and you had spent days in planning and editing it — you can transfer it to Illumination-Curated for consideration. If the editors read the story — and vote in its favor — it would be curated by Illumination and published in Illumination-Curated.
- Submitting or not submitting to Illumination-Curated is a choice that a writer makes.
- If your story was curated a few months ago, you could choose to submit it to Illumination-Curated, and get a second wave of readers enjoying your masterpiece.
- If you think that your story can attract more views on Illumination-Curated — the new home for curated articles of Illumination — you can opt to transfer your story to the new publication.
Transfer from Illumination-Curated to Illumination
Sometimes you may need to transfer your story to Illumination.
How to transfer
- Remove your story from Illumination-Curated: Open your story in Illumination-Curated. In the editing mode, click on the three dots ‘…’ and select Remove from publication.
- Add your story to Illumination: To add your story to Illumination, first choose the edit mode, then click on the three dots ‘…’ and select Add to publication.
- If your draft is not accepted by Illumination-Curated: If your story was removed from the draft queue of Illumination-Curated, it would be just another story in your drafts. You can publish it in Illumination like any other story.
Why transfer
- If you submitted a draft to Illumination and it was not selected by the vote of editors, your story will be removed from the Illumination-Curated draft queue. But you’ll be almost always given the option of moving your story to Illumination.
- If you mistakenly submit a story to Illumination-Curated, you can transfer it back to Illumination.
- If, for any reason, you believe that your story can get more views on Illumination, you are free to transfer your story back to the main publication.
The responsibilities of the writer
- Please do not republish your story on Illumination or Illumination-Curated by deleting your old story. It is not allowed by Medium rules.
- Please do not use Youtube or other blogging sites to plagiarize your stories. All the editors use Duplichecker to see it your story is plagiarized.
- Please do not use images that are not properly attributed or you don’t have the right to use them.
- Please do not spread hate to get more views.
- Please do not spam the ‘draft queue,’ of Illumination-Curated.
- Please follow all the rules of Medium. Here is a summary of the Medium rules:

All writers must follow Medium curation guidelines and Medium rules if they want to continue publishing their stories with Illumination. The publications on Medium have to follow the guidelines and rules:
Duplicate content is not allowed
“Medium does not allow posting duplicate content, whether from a single account or across multiple accounts, either publicly or as an unlisted story.”
Spam is not allowed
Reposting from other sources
Web scraping and reposting stories from other sources to earn money is spam.
Don’t publish the same story twice
You cannot republish a story twice from your account or a second or third account.
Clipped stories that go off Medium
If you publish only a part of your story on Medium and then you provide a link to the story on your blog, it is considered spam.
Using software solutions to interact with Medium users
If you follow and unfollow with the help of a browser extension or clap, highlight, or leave private notes by using scripts, you are spamming on Medium.
Responses are not for self-promotion
Using responses for self-promotion is considered spamming on Medium.
Bounty campaigns or brigades
You are not allowed to fraudulently boost search rankings for posts. You cannot offer to follow someone if they follow you.
Slightly modified stories are spam
If you write an article and later modify it slightly for republishing it, it is considered spam.
Every time you publish something, the article must be new.
Graphic content
Pornographic images and videos are not allowed.
Restricted categories
Stories that facilitate these activities are not allowed:
- Harmful conspiracies
- Gambling or betting
- Illegal sexual services
- Copyright violation
Exploitation of minors
Sexual or violent exploitation of minors is strictly prohibited.
Promotion of self-harm
These activities should not be glorified: cutting, eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia, and suicide.
Privacy and Reputation
Medium does not allow the following:
- Posting private communications without the consent of all parties
- Doxing — using publicly available information to target, shame, or blackmail anybody
- Exposing confidential information such as credit card numbers, email addresses, etc.
Harassment
Medium is a place to share ideas. Any type of harassment is not allowed:
- Bullying, threatening, or shaming someone
- Using responses and private notes to harass someone

What happens when I submit my previously published story that is not curated?
Answer: We accept only drafts, and previously published uncurated stories are not accepted.
I have a lot of curated stories in other publications; can I submit them to Illumination-Curated?
Answer: We do not encourage it. But if you choose to move your curated stories to the new publication, we’ll not stop you. This publication is for the curated stories currently published on Illumination — if the writers want to move their stories to this publication, they can do that.
How long should I wait after submitting my draft story?
Answer: If seven working days pass, it means we passed on your story this time.
What happens if I send more than one draft?
Answer: At Illumination-Curated, we are looking for high-quality stories. We do not accept more than one draft at one time. If you try to spam our draft queue, it can result in your removal from the writer’s list.
Should I write stories specifically crafted for Illumination-Curated?
Answer: That is the whole idea. We don’t want your journal entries. We want your masterpieces. We want your best work that you have edited mercilessly until your words express your meanings with vigor and brevity.
What are the preferred topics in Illumination-Curated?
Answer: We accept a good story about any topic. However, we prefer these tags: self-improvement, science, technology, philosophy, psychology, business, poetry, and politics.
Why was this new publication created?
Answer: The publication owners felt the best stories published on Illumination needed a new life and a new home to get more views and better reading times.
The new publication focuses on high quality and readability. Its a paradigm shift. This publication is aiming for a very high curation rate — trying to become a Medium partner publication.

Is there a limit to how many drafts I can send in one day?
Answer: You can send one draft at one time to Illumination-Curated. You cannot send another draft until the editors have decided the fate of the first one.
Where can I find all the resources related to Illumination-Curated?
Answer: You can search Illumination publication. On slack, you can visit this channel #illumination-curated-resources.
Will I lose my claps and comments when I add my story to the new publication?
Answer: No. Your claps and comments go with the story.
During the time that my articles are waiting to be republished, will they become, “dead-links” on the topic pages?
Answer: No. They remain active during the transition.
What happens if I am not added as a writer after three days?
Answer: Generally, you’ll be added as a new writer within three days. If you do not see Illumination in your list of publications, you can contact us again.
How can I get curated more frequently?
Answer: Dr Mehmet Yildiz advised the editors to come up with ideas to increase the curation rate of the Illumination writers. These curation guidelines are pretty comprehensive and allow you to have a 99% chance to get curated if you follow all the techniques described here:
