EXERCISE LIFE LESSONS

How to Start a New Exercise Program

Starting a new exercise program can be a struggle when you are in bad shape. Sometimes, it’s no more than raising your hands — my 100-word method.

I suggest this exercise for those seriously out of shape. They advise you to check with your doctor before you start a new activity, but you can safely start with a 2-pound potato bag in each hand.

Extend your arms straight up from your sides, hold it there for five minutes, and then drop them back to your sides.

After a week, you can move up to a 5-pound bag. Eventually, try to get to where you can do it with a 10-pound bag.

After you get comfortable with that, then you can try it with potatoes in the bag.
