FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
I Knew Right Away It Was Going to Be a Long Year
My 100-word, micro-fiction about my first day teaching freshman English.

It was my first day of teaching freshman English at the high school. The kids all filed into the class and sat looking up at me. I had written my name upon the board.
I said, “As you can see, there is a questionnaire on your desk. I would like you to fill it out and hand it in. Don’t worry too much about your answers; I just want to get to know you a little better.”
One of the questions was, “Choose one word that summarizes your strongest attribute.”
One student wrote, “I am good at following instructions.” OMG!
