Finding true love is hard. But it’s not impossible.

We all want to find true love. In a world full of lies, it’s the one thing that we all hope will be real.

But how do you find it? And once you find it, how do you make sure it lasts? There are 13 things you can do to make sure your relationship is built on a solid foundation that will last.

So, if you’re looking for love, read on! These 13 steps will help you find the one who is right for you and keep them by your side for the long haul.

1. It’s important to love and be loved in return

One of the worst reasons to be in a relationship is if you’re only doing it because you want somebody to make you feel good. If your only motivation for being with somebody is to feel loved, then what will happen when things start going downhill?

At that point, all their love and affection will go away and they’ll leave because it was never genuine in the first place.

The best way to inspire somebody to fall in love with you is by being a person who loves and respects themselves without expecting anything from them.

You have to be content with yourself before you can expect somebody else to appreciate you for all that you are so don’t settle for second-best because they’re not worth it.

2. Go out and socialize with people you’re attracted to

By meeting people in person it allows for a mutual feeling of attraction to occur which may lead the way to something more meaningful.

This way, if things are meant to go further, they can without worrying about what somebody looks like on the surface. It gives people the opportunity to truly get to know you and vice versa which leads to a more genuine connection.

3. Be open

Being open is another way of showing that you are low on the dominance hierarchy. It is essentially saying, “I have nothing to hide” and is again, very attractive.

People who are open are much more likely to experience love than those who are closed off and secretive. If you’re looking for true love, it’s important to be as open as possible with your partner.

4. Keep active

Those who keep themselves active and healthy not only look better, but feel better too.

If you want to attract someone special, it’s important to be active on a daily basis so that your body is healthy and you feel good about yourself. Just keep in mind that your overall wellbeing can affect how attractive you appear.

For example, someone who works out regularly is likely to be in good shape and feel more confident. That’s a combination that’s tough for anyone to resist!

5. Be grateful

Research has shown that those who are grateful for their partners are more likely to be in long-term relationships and less likely to divorce. In fact, those who showed gratitude even after negative events were still as satisfied as those who had positive responses throughout the whole experience.

Those who are grateful for their relationships look at them in a more optimistic way and therefore last longer than those who don’t feel as positive about their partner and the relationship they have together.

6. Be honest

This may seem obvious, but it’s still worth saying: if you’re looking for true love, be honest about who you are and what you want. If there’s a part of your personality that you don’t like or something from your past that you’d rather not discuss, try to get rid of it before you start dating.

The more honest you are with your partner, the easier it will be for them to trust you and therefore fall in love with you. Also, being honest about who you are reducing the chance that your partner will leave if they find out something later on.

7. Don’t expect perfection

This one might seem like another obvious piece of advice but it’s one that people struggle with most, especially when entering into a long-term relationship.

So many people become infatuated with the idea of being in love that they end up pushing their partner to be somebody who they’re not. They expect them to change small things about themselves because they seem tedious or ridiculous to let go.

You have to remember that nobody is perfect and everybody possesses flaws whether you want them or not, but the important thing is that they are aware of them. If you decide to become part of somebody’s life, it’s not their job to make everything perfect but rather your responsibility.

8. Cut the negative people out of your life

This piece of advice is probably the most important one because anybody who makes you feel bad about yourself or who is constantly demotivating you isn’t worth your time.

By limiting the number of negative people in your life and surrounding yourself with positive and mature individuals, you’re less likely to give up on love and more likely to find somebody who inspires you to be a better person.

If you need help with this one, start by evaluating those closest to you in your life. If any of them are making you feel bad about yourself or if they bring negative energy into the relationship, it’s time to cut them out completely because their only motivation will be to hold you back.

9. Keep the romance alive

The best way to keep a relationship exciting is by continuously being romantic. So many couples become complacent in their relationship and stop putting effort into it because they think that romance will fade away.

But this is the worst thing you can do. Romance isn’t about paying somebody 1 million dollars or showering them presents. It’s about being original and thinking outside of the box so that your partner never feels like they’re stuck in a rut.

10. Never try to change your partner

If there’s one thing that you should never do in a relationship, it’s changing the other person because if somebody doesn’t like who you are, they’re certainly not going to stick around. If your partner wants to change who you are or what you believe in, then they’re not worth it because the only person that should ever change is you.

You have to be able to compromise with your partner but never to the point where they slowly take over your life and become someone that you’re not.

11. Be nice

Being nice is extremely attractive, not just to your partner but to everyone else. It’s a sign of being low on the dominance hierarchy, which means that you are more likely to be kind, not confrontational and therefore less likely to be violent.

There’s a reason we fall in love with the boy who picks up our books in the hallway, not the one who is picking a fight with someone else. Being kind will make you more attractive to everyone around you, including your crush.

12. Be emotionally intelligent

Emotional intelligence means being able to pick up on non-verbal social cues. However, be mindful that you don’t come off as clingy or needy in the early stages of love.

You need boundaries when it comes to emotional displays. If you are excessively needy with your partner, they will most likely run away. Emotional intelligence means being aware of what other people around you find acceptable and what they don’t.

Emotional intelligence has already been proven to be an attractive quality, so if you’re looking for true love, it’s time to boost your EQ.

According to studies, the more emotionally intelligent you are, the less likely you are to get divorced and the easier it will be for you to communicate with others.

When a partner can understand your emotional state and vice versa, it means a better chance for a lasting relationship!

13. Be a good listener

If there’s one thing that can make or break a relationship, it’s communication! Never take your partner for granted when it comes to communication. If they have something to say, let them express themselves. People who are confident in their ability to communicate with others are more attractive than those who can’t.

The bottom line

In order for your relationship to survive, you need to constantly work on yourself and become somebody who is stable and reliable.
