How Much I Made In December On Medium With 23k Views
Since starting my writing journey on Medium in March, I’ve shared my earnings through the good months and bad.
I’ve used it as a journal to track my progress and challenge misconceptions about Medium.
There isn’t an exact set of rules to follow for Medium success. However, you need to constantly evaluate and iterate your strategy if you want success on this platform.
This process of evaluating and iterating made December my highest earning month so far.
If you haven’t read my November Medium earnings report, check it out below:
Here is my breakdown for December:

I had 23,000 views in December which was a 50.6% increase from November.
There were 2 large spikes on December 4th with 1.4k views and also on December 7th with 1.1k views, but I generally had consistent views throughout the rest of the month.
I wrote 29 articles, 2 more than the previous month, only taking off Christmas and New Year's Eve.

I gained 604 subscribers and 20 email subscribers, thanks for all your support!
And finally for the number you have been waiting for:

I made $605.03!
My highest-earning month so far, I am still amazed that writing words online can earn you this much.
My 3 highest earnings articles included:
My progress has led me to these conclusions on Medium:
- You don’t need a huge following to make income with Medium: I know many writers feel they need tens of thousands of followers to start seeing a large increase in earnings but it’s simply not true.
Early on, even with just a few hundred followers on this platform, I was able to make hundreds each month writing.

I’m not alone there are also numerous other writers earning hundreds with a small following.
It’s the quality of engagement and content that affects your earnings.
2. You don’t need to write for big publications to go viral:
When I started writing on Medium, I believed the fastest way to increase my following and income was to write in big publications.
I submitted articles to several large publications on the platform but surprisingly, I didn’t gain much recognition or rewards.
This belief is damaging and holds my writers back, constantly chasing views and recognition.
I decided to change my approach and focus on publications with smaller, engaged audiences and this resulted in more of my articles gaining thousands of views.
3. Write consistently, daily if you can:
Early on, I believed only long-form articles could earn you the big bucks on Medium.
I know now, the key to a successful article is not the length but how well it conveys its message and content.
The focus should be on creating something engaging and informative.
The majority of my articles are between 2–4 minutes.
I use many of these shorter articles to test out new ideas I want to write about and if there is an encouraging response then I write deeper, longer articles about the subject.
I also link other relevant articles to keep my audience engaged and interested in more of my writing.
Final Thoughts
I’m glad how far my writing and earnings have come.
I’ve constantly kept adapting here and I look forward to what 2024 brings.
How was December for you, do you agree with my conclusions?
