Summary

The author, Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, shares his personal experience with overcoming leaky gut syndrome through the consumption of gelatin-rich bone broth and the elimination of fiber from his diet.

Abstract

Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, a sufferer of severe digestive issues, allergies, and autoimmune conditions, details his journey to healing his leaky gut. He explains how conventional medical advice failed to alleviate his symptoms and how he turned to natural and functional medicine communities for solutions. The primary interventions that led to significant health improvements were the introduction of gelatin, sourced from homemade bone broth, and the counterintuitive decision to eliminate fiber from his diet. These changes resulted in the resolution of his digestive problems, reduced allergies, clearer skin, improved food tolerance, and decreased arthritis pain. Dr. Yildiz also provides links to further reading on related health topics and invites new writers to join his publications to share their health and well-being stories.

These Two Simple Hacks Helped Me Fix My Leaky Gut.

I used to experience the discomfort and pain of bloating every day. My digestive system was in agony for many years.

My digestive issues were over the top in my younger years. Suffering from abdominal discomfort was unbearable. The symptoms indicated a leaky gut. I found two effective ways to solve my problems.

Leaky gut is still a controversial topic. It hasn’t hit mainstream healthcare yet, but it is on its way. The closest term I found in the medical literature at the time was “increased intestinal permeability.”

Functional and natural medicine communities widely discuss this topic. Therefore, I participated in several online forums and gleaned valuable insights from clinical stories and anecdotal cases.

Terminology and technical details are not my focus.

However, coming from a background of severe digestive issues, allergies, and autoimmune conditions, having had a leaky gut at the time was obvious.

I used to experience the discomfort and pain of bloating every day. My digestive system was in agony for many years.

Eating six servings of vegetables, three serves of fruit, several healthy snacks, and even supplementing with a spoon of fiber was not helping. Yet, based on my tenuous understanding of conventional medicine and nutrition, I thought vegetables, fruits, and fiber would fix my digestive issues.

My understanding from anatomy textbooks, our gut has around 4,000 square feet of the epithelial lining. The purpose of this lining is to control the substance entering our bloodstream. Gut health is a broad topic, but understanding the gastrointestinal tract function can shed light on digestive issues, especially leaky gut syndrome.

The main symptom of a leaky gut was excessive allergies, food intolerance, constant bloating, high inflammation, autoimmune conditions, e.g., mild arthritis, and skin disorders.

I used to take lots of anti-acid supplements that ruined my digestive health and probably caused me other health issues. My stomach needed more acid to digest food. I was stupidly reducing the acid to feel comfortable.

I decided to fix my gut by using the techniques I learned from various sources. I wanted to try one thing at a time to record the progress, try the next compelling items, and integrate them.

I want to introduce the most beneficial intervention for healing my gut issues in this story.

Let me introduce you to this excellent hack that improved my digestive issues and consequently solved my leaky gut problem.

Gelatine is a magical substance that I discovered.

The best source of gelatine and the easiest way of making it for me is bone broth. Why Gelatine?

Gelatine increases gastric acid secretion. A healthy level of stomach acid helps us gain a healthy mucosal lining.

The crucial learning from natural and functional medicine discussions was that healthy intestinal cells could prevent leaky gut and improve intestinal permeability.

Learning the importance of gelatine, I decided to introduce it to my diet.

I love drinking bone broth. It is the most delicious drink for me. I used to buy from health shops, but the cost was prohibitive.

After reading the recipes and ideas from bone broth lovers in my circles, the healthiest and best way seemed to be making bone broth at home.

I buy fresh lamb or cow bones from the butcher. They are incredibly cheap. My butcher gives them to me for free sometimes. We call them “doggy bags.”

I use a porcelain-based slow cooker to boil the bones for 24 hours.

When the broth gets cold, it turns to gelatine.

I consume it in two ways.

The first one is to warm it up and drink it for one hour before bed.

The second one is to eat it in jelly format with a spoon.

Drinking homemade bone broth every night before going to bed contributed to my sleep quality and improved my intestinal cells.

After six months, my digestive issues disappeared.

During that time, as a second hack, I stopped fiber. Even though fiber was taught as helpful for the digestive system, ironically, it was the root cause of my bloating and several other digestive issues. I shared my experience with fiber in a story titled. Why did I Entirely Cut Fibre from My Diet?

After introducing bone broth to my diet and cutting fiber entirely, I felt a fantastic sensation in my body.

Many of my digestive symptoms disappeared. I experienced remarkable improvements in my health. For example:

· Awful bloating stopped.

· My skin got clearer.

· My allergies reduced.

· My food tolerance improved.

· My arthritis pain noticeably decreased.

Thank you for reading my perspectives.
