As a new writer, publishing on Medium can be overwhelming. Whether you choose to self-publish or publish with a publication, here is a handy checklist you can use to make sure you don’t miss anything.

It will also reduce the chances of being rejected by a publication!

✅ Format the title in title case

✅ Format the subtitle with the small “t”

✅ Add a photo underneath the subtitle

✅ Add an optional kicker

✅ Proofread your text for grammar, passive voice, and spelling errors

✅ Check for wordiness, run-on sentences, and random capitalization

✅ Add breaks in your text, including quotes, white spaces, and photos

✅ Credit all photos with a source link and add an ALT text description

✅ Review submission criteria if you are submitting to a publication

✅ Add 5 tags

Update SEO

✅ Add a Call To Action at the bottom of your story

If you can tick all the boxes, you are ready to publish! Go for it!
