Halloween Abundance

A beloved celebration of giving and receiving

Yesterday was a day of flow and abundance! Halloween is a beloved holiday in our household. My husband loves it so much I even made him a Halloween themed stocking for Christmas. Even though this year is different, we let abundance flow for our neighborhood this year. What a joyful day it was! So far, it was one of the most fruitful days of my 100-day journey exploring abundance through the book The Tao of Abundance: Eight Ancient Principles for Abundant Living by Laurence G. Boldt.

Like the flow of water, effortless action is fluid, unhesitating. Spontaneous free action arises from the emptiness. — Laurence G. Boldt

All of the actions we took yesterday to make the holiday fun, even during these times of shift, flowed freely from our hearts. Preparing for Halloween festivities was very different this year, but it was even more creative than in years past.

Human creativity is a natural part of what the universe is doing. It is as natural for human beings to create as it is for birds to fly or fish to swim. We are all blessed with innate creative ability. -Laurence G. Boldt

For weeks my husband planned a unique way to deliver candy. We are lucky to live in a cul-de-sac or a large turn-around circle in our neighborhood. Our house is in the very middle, and sometimes we aren’t seen by trick or treaters. He decided to create a giant slingshot that would shoot candy out to a chalk-drawn bullseye in the middle of the cul-de-sac. He attached some large metal eye hooks to either side of our garden gate, attached a plastic mop bucket top to put the bag of candy in, and then attached either side with strong, stretchy surgical tubing. It worked so well! A few days before, we all made candy bags with glow sticks in them, ready to launch.

Yesterday we made the final preparations. We tested the candy slingshot again and took videos. We drew the large, colorful circles of the bullseye in the cul-de-sac. My son drew faces on four pumpkins, and I carved them. I also roasted some pumpkin seeds inspired by Lanu Pitan’s article about the nutrition of pumpkins. We all agreed they were so tasty, sprinkled with garlic salt. Then, we took a long table and chairs and set them out in front of our garage. We decorated with the pumpkins, all lit up!

It gave us an overflow of joy to see the smiles and delight from parents and kids as the candy bags flew up into the air! We enjoyed our time awaiting the next trick or treaters, watching the bright full moon, chatting about how fun it was. We didn’t have as many people stop by this year, but the ones who did were so happy.

My prayer and my intention for you today is to realize your abundant creative ability. You are immensely creative. You are here to create amazing works that are unique to you. Your words, actions, and creations are yours to share with the world.
