We are standing on the threshold of a new year and an opportunity to give ourselves a clean slate. The year 2020 is behind us and we are now looking at an entirely new series of months to make the most of our lives and the changes we’re desperate to make. Now is the moment to give yourself a fresh start — but how can we do that after the struggles of the previous year?
It’s time to let go of the past and focus on the future. When we give ourselves a fresh start, we create new opportunities and allow ourselves to embrace personal growth. We also close the door on negativity and give ourselves a chance to bloom somewhere we can authentically thrive as we are. If you want this year to be better than the last, then it’s time to make changes. Give yourself a fresh start the right way.
A fresh start is a beautiful thing.
So many of us fear the idea of starting over, but starting over is a truly beautiful thing. As humans, we get mixed up and we get things wrong. Making mistakes adds to our growth, but it can take us down the wrong paths which lead to disappointment and inauthenticity. When that happens, it’s crucial that we find our way back to the starting point. There, we can reassess and figure out what really matters and the paths we need to take.
Give yourself the gift of a fresh start this year. There’s nothing wrong with choosing to go a different way; there’s nothing wrong with overhauling your life and doing what truly aligns with your values and your happiness. If we learned anything from 2020, it’s that life is far too short to waste serving other people’s joy.
Now is the time to manifest the life that brings you actual fulfillment. Now is the time to build wealth, enhance your relationships, and let go of all the pain and all the upset of the past. Shift your negative mindset and rework your regrets into the silver lining the educates you and motivates you. This life (and the way we feel about it) is within our control. Are you ready to live a life that brings you joy and fulfilling relationships? Start fresh and focus on what really matters.
Why you should always take a chance to start over.
There’s nothing wrong with starting over or admitting that you don’t like where you are. As humans, we all make mistakes. It’s a part of our learning journey and a crucial part of our emotional development. When we get things wrong or take wrong turns, it’s okay to do it all over again and rebuild our life in a pattern that makes sense.
Creating new opportunities
Giving yourself a fresh start enables you to create new opportunities in both life and love. Getting where you were meant to be allows you to create work opportunities, and it also gives you the chance to meet new people that help you realize different aspects of self. Life has a funny way of handing us success when we put ourselves on the path we’re meant to be on.
Embracing personal growth
We tend to think of starting over as major change, and it is. But our human instinct is to fear change, because we see it as the “unknown”. This unknown is precisely what allows us to bloom, however. On a clean slate, there are no restrictions. You are free to create whatever you want to create, and that’s both incredibly beautiful and incredibly motivating when you choose to change the way you see things.
Closing the door on negativity
Are you stuck in a bad place in life, or surrounded by negative people and experiences? When we’re drowning in negativity, giving ourselves a fresh start can be empowering and healing. This process allows you to close the door on negative people and negative things; it allows you to start again and surround yourself with an environment that makes you feel wanted and valued.
Improving your environment
Improving the quality of our lives isn’t easy, but it’s necessary in order to achieve true happiness and fulfillment. Our living conditions and the relationships around us go a long way in determining our joy in life. Fresh starts enable you to take a second look at your environment and all the ways you want to improve it. Then, you can take actionable steps to get there with compassion and focus.
Opening deeper connections
Our interpersonal relationships are very important, and to some they form a core foundation of their overall happiness in life. By gifting ourselves with a fresh start, we can transform our relationships and the ways in which we connect with others. Opening these deeper connections helps us to recognize deeper parts of ourselves, while building partnerships that are both stable and healthy.
Repairing pain from the past
The pain from our past haunts us and creates mental and emotional struggles that disrupt us for decades. We have to repair this pain in order to figure out who we really are and giving ourselves a fresh start can help with that. Giving yourself some distance gives you a more omnipotent perspective. You can use this perspective to dramatically change your attachment to the past, and you can use it to process and to heal.
The best ways to give yourself a fresh start.
Do you want to build better relationships, or just find meaning in your life? You have to pull yourself out of the rut you’re in and get on a path that both drives you and stabilizes you. Give yourself a fresh start and get there by changing your mindset and reworking your perspective. Then you can take some leaps and start planting yourself in the places where you can authentically bloom.
1. Shift your negative mindset
The first and biggest step we must take in starting over is shifting our mindset. When we’re stuck in a negative mindset or a negative view of ourselves, it prevents us from opening the door on opportunity and it keeps us stuck and small where we are. Rather than expecting everything around us to fail, we have to find the positive and look for our deeper sense of optimism.
Shift your negative mindset and get determined to build a positive future for yourself. We choose how we feel, and we choose how we react to failure, disappointment, rejection, and setbacks. In order to be happier in life, we have to start being happier from the inside out.
Look for the silver lining and the positive points you can take away from any situation. No matter where we get stuck, we can always see the adversity as a learning lesson. Figure out how you want to proceed by first realizing how you don’t want to move forward. By moving from a negative mindset to a positive mindset, you can make it easier to create a life that’s filled with happiness and meaning.
2. Rework your regrets
Everyone in this life has regrets, and everyone gets held back by the mistakes that they make. Getting it wrong is haunting, and a lot of people allow their missteps to completely disrupt the course of your life. You can’t afford to allow your regrets to hold you back. If you truly want to build a world that makes you happy, you have to see your mistakes as the learning opportunity that they are.
Stop allowing your regrets to hold you back. Stop hiding in shame and guilt and empower yourself to step into the daylight of your happiness. We all get things wrong. No one is capable of being perfect. Face your regrets and know that you were doing the best you could with the skills you had at the time.
You need to understand that you’re no longer the person you were back then. Giving yourself a fresh start does allow you to hit the reset button and become the person you want to be. We are all capable of growth, and we’re all capable of becoming something better than we were. First, though, we have to become aware of who we are and what we want from the future. Rework your regrets and find the silver lining.
3. Focus on a future that matters
Starting over isn’t easy, and it can be a process that’s both fearful and stressful. You have to keep yourself motivated and you do this by getting excited about the work you have to do. One of the most effective ways to do this is by focusing on the future and all the happiness and success you’re going to create for yourself there. Focus on a future that matters, and it will make diving into personal transformation that much easier.
Face forward and get focused on what matters most. What do you want your future to look like? Who do you want to be surrounded by? How do you want them to treat you? To see you? Think about things like your career, the house you want to live in, and the vacations you want to take.
Get excited about the life you’re building for yourself. No matter what road you take, you’re going to face challenges and upsets. In order to get past them, you need to have something you can really invest in and look forward to. Build yourself a future you enjoy working toward. Ensure that it provides fulfillment and ensure that gives you a driving sense of meaning.
4. Get rid of rumination
Rumination is one of the most toxic patterns we get ourselves stuck in, and it keeps us small and detached from happiness. When we ruminate, we become hyper-fixated on all the negative things in our lives and our pasts. Soon, the negativity takes over and begins to manifest in our moods, our reactions, and even the way in which we see ourselves and the world we build for ourselves.
You need to put your rumination to an end if you want to find the strength and the courage to create a future that’s authentically yours. Find ways to divert your thoughts whenever they head south. Distract yourself from the negativity and channel it into something productive instead.
Journal your feelings out. Go for a run. Get up and walk around the room while you brainstorm ways to improve your business or your relationships. There’s no right or wrong way to put the rumination to an end, what matters is that you consciously learn how to recognize this negative and obsessive pattern of thinking, so that you can consciously distract yourself before it takes over your entire day or mood.
5. Plant yourself where you can bloom
We don’t always end up where we need to be in life. That may come down to the decisions we make, or it may come down to the general ebb and flow of existence. Whatever the reason, it’s important to take note when you’ve planted yourself somewhere wrong. If we truly want to thrive and start over, we have to plant ourselves where we can bloom.
Take a step back and take a look around. Who are you surrounded by? Where is the ceiling for opportunity in your current environment? You can’t stay attached to small people and think that your big dreams are going to come true. At some point, you’re going to have to surround yourself (consciously) with the people and things which help you to thrive.
It’s time to take dramatic action in the name of your authentic happiness. If you’re surrounded by people who continue to tear you down, then it’s time for you to walk away and surround yourself with people who build you up. If the career or the place that you’re stuck in makes you miserable and detached, it’s time to move and find new surroundings which nourish you.
Putting it all together…
The new year is a great time to give ourselves a fresh start, but that can be a daunting task when we’re stuck somewhere in unhappiness and discomfort. When we give ourselves a chance to start over, we open the door on new opportunities and open the door on deeper connections. In order to give ourselves a fresh start, though, we have to both focus and take action.
Shift your negative mindset and understand your right to manifest a life that both fulfilling and hopeful. You are in control of your thoughts and your emotions. The better you allow yourself to feel, the easier your transformation will be. Rework your regrets and see them as the learning opportunities which encourage you to grow. Focus on a future that matters and be honest with yourself about what provides meaning and fulfillment. Put the rumination to an end and allow yourself to be focused on what’s coming up for you and your life. We can’t always thrive where we find ourselves. Give yourself a fresh start by planting yourself where you can bloom, surrounded by love and a true sense of joy and happiness.
