GBS Newsletter — Jan 5th: Where Are You Going in 2023? Hmm? 🤔
Plus, our two buzz words for this year

Hello Globetrotters! 🌍😀
Welcome to a New Year of travel adventure. We are so happy you could join us in 2023 as we continue bring you the very best travel stories we possibly can.
In doing so, we will be focusing on two things in the New Year and the first of these is quality.
Fellow editor Jillian just wrote a great piece about what we are looking for from our writers: “2023 Tips to Help You Write a Great Travel Story For Globetrotters”. I do hope everyone who submits stories to us will give this a good read.
At the same time, I fully acknowledge there are plenty of writers on Globetrotters who already do just that. These are the writers who work diligently and consistently to produce quality content each and every time they submit stories.
Simply said, we want to reward these writers going forward. So, our second buzzword will be a focus on reading.
Now, believe it or not I’ve actually had writers get a bit pissy with me when I start suggesting they should spend just as much time reading this pub as they do on writing for this pub. For real!?!
Here to say, people can get as pissy as they want, however, I will always continue to push good reading just as much as I continue to push good writing. Chew my bum to the moon and back — it probably needs it anyway.
We do not want this to be a pub where people simply drop stories and scram. On the other hand, we will continue to do our part to bring you those quality travel stories.
And if you are already one of those who tries their best to read stories as well as publish, thank you so much for your efforts. We know who you are, and we appreciate you.
Oh, and by the way, if you want to read some great quality stories and have examples of what we love to see, check out these offerings:
- Barb Dalton writes about airplane window photography, as some of our other writers have in the past. I have plenty of these photos myself and LOVE them, so I added this to our handy-dandy prompt list: “Planet Earth, Through an Airplane Window”.
- Enjoyed reading this simple yet beautiful story full of vivid detail and heart by John Gobins: “Christmas in Kodiak. Breaking tradition broke a long-standing myth”.
- Also, appreciated this story by Manali Mitra. It put me in such a positive frame of mind: “Floral Dawn of the New Year. Walking through the heaps of marigolds… bags full of jasmines, and bundles of roses to start the new year with renewed energy! Yes!
Check out more in Adrienne’s latest story recap from before the Christmas break: “Stories 18–24 December. It’s Christmas 🎄”.
What Are Your Plans for This Year? Where Will You Be Going?
Oh, but what we really want to know is: where are you going in 2023? What do your great travel schemes and dreams in the New Year consist of?
In fact, this is our Monthly Challenge for January, which Anne was so kind to kick off for us: “January Monthly Challenge — My Travel Wish List 2023”.
Editor Jillian wrote our first story: “Surprise — We Are Going To Greece!”
Editor Adrienne wrote our second story for us: “I’m Off to The Philippines for My Youngest Son’s Wedding”.
Plus, we’ve had three writers submit their stories so far:
Scott-Ryan Abt: Lots of great plans, including Norway, New Zealand and my own personal stomping ground, the Caribbean: “When the World is Your Oyster: Where I Want to Go in 2023”.
Michael Rhodes: Mexico? Cherry blossoms in Japan? Yes please! “January Challenge — My Travel Wish List 2023”.
Aarti Tailor: Exploring amazing places in Canada. I love the country myself whenever I’ve been: “Kicking Off 2023 By Checking Off Travel Goals”.
December Christmas Stories
It was so lovely to read all the Christmas stories submitted to our now past December challenge. If you haven’t yet, do give this finale put together by Anne a read and see what our favorites were: “Christmas and Other Celebrations — The Finale”.
Writer Spotlight Stories
If you’re one of our writers and haven’t done so yet, consider writing your Writer Spotlight Story and introduce yourself to everyone here at Globetrotters. They are always fun to read.
Check out this latest spotlight story by new writer Randyduke: “Globetrotters Writer Spotlight — Randy Duke”.
The editing team here at Globetrotters consists of Adrienne Beaumont, Anne Bonfert, Jillian Amatt — Artistic Voyages and myself, JoAnn Ryan.
