Fits of Laughter from a Box of Cereal

A mysterious flavor from a land far away

For more than a week now, my husband talked about a surprise coming in the mail. What could it be? He thought it would be here over the weekend. It just arrived yesterday. We waited to open the box until he came home. We wondered what it was! What could be in a small, rectangular box? Each day of my 100-day journey focusing on abundance, I find new definitions of abundance. Yesterday was all about lots of fun in the form of humor.

When we opened the box, we all roared with laughter! Wow, it was something we never thought we would see! A mysterious cereal from Korea, a box we could not read. However, we did know quite a bit about it, you see.

Each day comes with its dose of happiness, its spread of joy, and abundance of laughter. Seek it. Find it. -Ola Sanusi

Recently, our son had shown us a video about a contest between two cereal flavors that happened many years ago in Korea. One of the flavors was one that the company thought would appeal to kids: chocolate. The other flavor, not so much. However, when they held a vote for the type of cereal that kids wanted to be made, the kids had fun voting for the underdog. The company ended up just producing the well-known flavor. People were wildly disappointed. So, recently, they made the flavor that actually won the vote: green onion flavored cereal!

Yes! We are now the proud owners of a box of green onion flavored cereal! The cereal box is wrapped expertly in a beautiful clear wrapping, looking like a shiny prize. We have it displayed on our mantel, anticipating trying it around Christmas day. Each time we gaze up at the box, we can chuckle as we are greeted by a cereal character, Chaka, pictured with green onion breath coming out of his mouth.

We had such a great time using the Google translate app on one of our phones to try to figure out what the box said. One of my favorite lines is “addictive sweetness.” That is not something I usually think of when I picture green onions!

Laughter is the sound of the soul dancing. -Jared Kintz

Even in the process of writing this story, I have laughed and felt joy in my heart. That is another kind of abundance. We can find an overflow of goodness wherever we look if we choose to.

My prayer and my intention for you today is to find something that brings you joy in the form of laughter. What makes you laugh out loud? What makes you smile? Find something funny to focus on today!
