Finding my purpose

and why it took me so long.

Recently, I have been researching ways of boosting one’s confidence. I came across an intriguing research in which several tricks where explained, but only one caught my attention: pitching yourself. Basically, you have to create in your mind a “small presentation of yourself” which you need to keep in your “brain’s storage” as a reminder of who you are, who you want to become and who you can be.

Here I am today, making a brief introduction of myself for the first publication which wants to make my voice heard. Thank you, Illumination, for making me practice what I try to preach.

So, hello fellow writers and readers. My name is Antonia and I am an aspiring freelance content writer. I say “aspiring” because I just got it started. I was born and currently living in Bucharest, Romania. Being raised in a post-communist country, I can admit that I grew up worshipping the “American Dream”.

Three months ago, I quit my corporate job to become a freelance writer without having any detailed plan of what I was going to do or any clear expectations of my destination. My motive? Simple. I knew I couldn’t see myself working in a legal job for the rest of my life. Having graduated Law School, the pressure was on…Imagine confronting the people who you thought they know who you are better than yourself that they are wrong — “No, mom, I won’t be a lawyer. I want to write as a job!”

I knew I ignored the signs for too long and made the decision to start from scratch. I don’t want to lose my whole life doing something I don’t enjoy just because I am good at it or because I wasted 4–5 years working towards achieving the wrong goals. I also know there were people who discouraged me when I shared my future plans, but with the right support system I managed to be brave enough to make the change of reinventing my career. I just needed a little push.

Creating your purpose means living your own dream, not sharing it with others.

Anyways, talking about myself a bit more, my current dream is to enjoy what I am working on because until now, I have never experienced this.

Who knew that you can actually combine your passion with your business? Obviously, I am joking. I have heard lots of quotes in my life, but I have to admit that the phrase “Do what you love and you’ll never work another day in your life” is by far the truest.

What do I write about?

Self-development. Neuroscience. Love and relationships. Mental health.

These are the main subjects I love reading and writing about. What I actually do is try to better myself by learning more and putting in writing anything that I consider it must be known and practiced by others.

You’d be surprised to find out there are lots of people who have the same questions as you, but never try to find answers. Sometimes, you have to bring your ideas into light to make even the smallest difference in someone’s day.

We live in times when the sources of information are infinite, but not many of them right. Understanding you can agree to disagree is key when it comes to the volume of ideas and concepts which we face every day. Also, it has never been easier to find the answers to your problems, meeting people who share your passions and connecting with mentors.

All in all, living means always learning and as I am starting this journey, I am glad that I found a place where I can do that. Therefore, if anyone is at the starting line like myself, feel free to reach out. I would love to share the support others have shown me.

And always remember: It’s never too late to be true to yourself.
