The Daily Cuppa Celebrates 4,000 Followers — Yeah Writers!

Thank you to all our writers, for making our little publication such a pleasant place to hang out and read engaging 150-word stories.

Is there a law that I must be out of commission when The Dailly Cuppa reaches major milestones? We went past 2,000 followers when I could not be on my computer because I’d injured my back and arm. Our fabulous editors kept everything going. Hip hip hooray for our editors!

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been gone because of a family member’s illness. I just had to drop our editors a message, and they jumped on board to take care of our writers.

AND — We Surpassed the 4,000 Followers Mark!

Do you think we do best when I’m gone? No, we just reach milestones.

Remember how we started?

Wow! Did you notice that? It was your day flying by. This publication is your place to enjoy stories of 150 words or fewer about plants and people, wild animals and pets, gardens and food, how-to and how-not-to — written to inform and delight. Did I mention humor?

I wanted to create a publication to entertain readers who were on their break at work or pausing in their busy day. My family and friends on Facebook like my little brain burps and stories and are always asking for more. Then my friend Adrienne Beaumont said the stories on Medium were too long. She did a lot of reading while on the train. My daughter said she and her friends at work wanted short things to read.

I’m old but I learn!

I created this publication to provide a place for people reading on their iOS and Android devices (phones) to find quick bits of information on a variety of topics to inform, entertain, delight, and encourage; all with a bit of cheer thrown in.

Thank you for pulling up a chair and reading our stories.

Some days, over 3,000 people stop by to sit a spell and read our stories!

The highest number of visitors in the last 90 days was 3,167 and the lowest number of visitors was 538.

What Is It We Do Differently?

Fast turnaround time on submissions.

To thank our writers, we publish 24 hours a day. We love it when we can catch a story upon submission, review it — and publish it. On occasion, a story is with us for 8 hours before we can get it out. More often, it’s within 2 hours.

This also keeps new content out there to take your mind off your troubles.

We focus on the reader's experience.

Most of us are familiar with the wonderful article written by Terry Mansfield about reciprocity. It was brilliant and Terry led by example. Terry is not on Medium anymore, but lots of writers still talk about him. Here is one:

Reciprocity is great for readers who are also writers. And short-form pubs are great for engagement as it’s time-efficient. Stop by; read, clap, comment, and thank others for stopping by to read your masterpieces.

Not all readers are writers!

We canvas readers. Our crew, of non-Medium members or readers-only members, is a great source of information about the reading experience.

You may have noticed that recently I’m been beginning stories about writing or Medium with: ‘For Writers’. I made that change after feedback that readers wanted ‘stories’, not writing advice. I could publish in The Daily Cuppa Grande, but sometimes what I want to say is just 150 words.

We started a second publication for long-form articles.

Initially, I’d publish an occasional long-form to share Cuppa news. My Cuppa readers didn’t like it. I said, “Didn’t you see the number of minutes?” Bad me! I was putting the responsibility on the reader. So after apologizing to all those I’d been, well, rude to, I started a second publication for all those long forms.

Regularly scheduled writers are a unique feature.

In consultation with our Cuppa readers, I discovered readers look forward to stories by their favorite writers. Because so many read on their breaks at work and at other fixed times, some of our very generous writers agreed to submit stories to be scheduled in advance.

It works. I know because when a mistake is made in scheduling, I get contacted.

Sunday Sonnets by William J Spirdione are now part of my Sunday routine. He complements his poetry with photos from his lovely garden.

Graphics Guru by Julie Ranson presents stories for those wanting to master and keep current on all the tech tricks related to graphics.

Midmorning Meditations by Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles are very popular with nurses and caregivers, and others, of course. Some of our readers have told me they use her techniques to help them get through difficult work situations.

Writer’s Cramps by Lucia Sugafield is a mini-blog documenting Lucia’s novel writing journey with its ups, downs, and roundabouts. She’s naturally witty, so they’re fun to read even if you're not an author.

Canadian Chit-Chat by Barbara Dalton is a traditional blog in mini form inviting us into the world of a busy Canadian nurse, mom, and citizen. Her work has garnered a zillion ‘chosen for distribution’ honors and views in the thousands.

Out Of Australia by Adrienne Beaumont delights us with an eclectic array of topics. Her style is spontaneous, energetic, and way interesting!

Mid-afternoon Musings by Karen Schwartz are traditional blog posts in miniature presenting a wide variety of articles, including some serialized fiction. Her cat is often a star.

Those wanting light and interesting stories in the evening enjoy After Dinner Moments by Jennifer Dunne. Her mini blog has taken us to the Caribbean. What a treat. She’s not visiting — she lives there now.

The Daily Cuppa Walkabout’s a hit.

Another interesting thing some of our writers do in response to reader interest was to create The daily Cuppa Walkabout. Every day of the week, we have a story about plants, herbs, recipes, and cultural traditions from around our world.

Jane Frost (Jane Grows Garden Rooms), James Beaufait, Kris Bedenian, JM Heatherly, Nancy Blackman, Julie Gaeta, PseuPending (Seu), Ilis Trudie Palmer, Jennifer Dunne, and Juana Flor have been our guides. Many other writers have joined us on our journey seeking health and community.

Our latest edition:

James Beaufait created Postcards.

James created Postcards as a way for us to create an ever deeper community connection. I love them.

Our writers have had amazing successes.

We’re not writing short form to make money because we have — like a brain. We write them because we love our readers! And they are so fun to write.

We have such fun chatting about our views and reads. Here’s a story where Jennifer Dunne writes about a story that had 1,500 views.

What’s Some Other Fun Stuff Our Writers do?

I’m going to have time to share much of what our writers have been up to. But here’s a little taste.

CARMEN F MICSA created something really fun.

P.S. This is my ongoing serial fun and wisdom signs piece that will hopefully delight you, my master readers.

Susan Alison not only submits enchanting stories but gifts us her art — and there are a lot of visits by PupperJack.

This charming story was written to introduce a long-form story.

Mukundarajan V N reads and thinks about things a lot. He’s a true intellectual who enjoys sharing what he learns and sparking our interest. You’ll find his stories nearly every day.

MN writes a lot of poetry but he’s also written some short-form fiction.

Juneta Key has joined in the serialized fiction craze.

I Could Go On — Our Writers Are So Amazing

Thank you. Each and every one of you. I read every story and am always entertained. You all get me smiling, crying, and thinking — and inspire me.

Followers:

There are not enough words in the thank you dictionary to express how I feel. We write for you. Medium pays writers a very small amount based on reading time. Our stories are one-minute reads, lol. We write for you, and your reads, highlights, claps, and comments are our reward.

THANK YOU

You don’t have to be a Member to read The Daily Cuppa stories at this time. And if you’re on my reader team — don’t join. At least not until I find someone else to step in.

If you want to support the wonderful writers on Medium please join us. Here’s my referral link and if you use it to join I get a small amount of your $5 fee; $2.27 at this time. Medium takes a fee and the rest is given to the writers of the stories you read. Only the stories you read.

When you join you’ll pick topics you want to read about. There’s a bunch and you can change them any time.

Not bad for a little pub around the corner from the big guys.
