Why’s My Pillow Moving?

In our final packing push before the movers arrived, we washed our bedding and put our mattress in a moving bag. We used the bedding we weren’t taking (because it was the wrong size) and made up the pull-out couch for two nights.

The first night, we were up late packing, and collapsed into bed. We didn’t even care that the sheets didn’t fit.

In the middle of the night, I migrated away from the uncomfortable metal brace under my hip. I ended up at the upper end of the mattress.

As dawn light crept around the partially open blinds, I burrowed my face into my pillow. My pillow kicked me in the face.

My actual pillow was down where I’d started the night. I’d been sleeping on the cat.

She was a very effective alarm clock.
