Summary

The Smillew Writers Challenge (SWC) has extended its deadline to coincide with the delayed announcement of the Medium Writers Challenge (MWC) results, offering a humorous take on writing contests with no tangible rewards.

Abstract

The SWC, inspired by the popularity and subsequent delay of the MWC, has decided to extend its submission period indefinitely. The challenge, which is more about personal fulfillment than winning, has seen a significant number of entries, particularly from the creator of the challenge. The most popular entries, as subjectively chosen by the challenge organizer, are highlighted in categories such as MUD, LIFE, UNDIES, and META, with a special emphasis on the organizer's personal favorites. Despite the lack of prizes, the challenge has been a success in terms of engagement and self-expression, with the organizer humorously requesting Medium's co-founder, Ev Williams, to participate in the SWC.

Opinions

  • The author of the SWC expresses a playful dissatisfaction with Medium's handling of the MWC, using humor to address the situation.
  • The SWC is portrayed as a challenge that values participation and self-expression over competition and rewards.
  • The author takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to the challenge's popularity, suggesting that the high number of entries is due to their own submissions.
  • The author's preference for certain entries is clear, though they acknowledge that their opinion is subjective and encourage readers to explore all submissions.
  • There is a humorous implication that the challenge's categories (MUD, LIFE, UNDIES, META) are somewhat arbitrary and that the real reward is the

Still nothing to win though

So, Medium couldn’t keep up with the number of entries in the Medium Writers Challenge — MWC — and postponed the results reveal for early October.

Boo, Medium, boo¹!

On the other hand, Lucky you.

After consultation with the Cap’, the Smillew Writers Challenge — SWC — got extended as well. As long as the MWC results will remain unknown, the SWC will be open for entries.

And I’m here to tell you I will keep up with the number of entries. No matter what. The challenge has been a huge success so far, with many entries. Mostly by myself.

Oh yeah! So many entries that no other challenge I created became so big and trendy. Anybody looking at the stats — if I made them public — would be blown away by the numbers.

Nobody read the entries, but who cares?

We don’t enter challenges for others. We do it for ourselves.

Participating in a challenge is like throwing MUDdy UNDIES in the face of the METAverse. It’s the epitome of LIFE.

Bolding and CAPitalization intended. Incidentally, these are the four categories of the SWC.

Now, the challenging stories

Below you’ll find the most popular entries so far. And by most popular, I mean the ones I prefer. Should you not trust my choice, weird, click on the titles and check all the others as well!

MUD

Marilyn gets down and dirty with muddy undies. Marilyn tried to enter her story in both Mud and Undies. Nice try!

LIFE

Andrew wrote The Book of Fallopians. It’s the only entry in life, but it’s so good, there’s no way it won’t be the winning one. Just give up and try another category.

UNDIES

Holly is singing with undies on her mind. I guess she’s thinking of her favorite software, the one and only, Grrrammarly.

META

The most popular category, by far. If my favorite one didn’t have to be Susan’s article, I would choose Betsy’s.
