Exercise is Giving Me Energy to Create Books (KDP Blog: Jan 17, 2024)
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve felt incredibly energetic, which I attribute to reintroducing exercise into my life. I use the term “reintroducing” because I haven’t maintained an exercise routine since April 2023. This period of inactivity not only made me feel constantly tired and sluggish, but it also led to a weight gain of about 1 stone (14 lbs).
My weekly routine now includes exercising four days a week at home. I recently invested in a treadmill, which is a great asset if used regularly. Besides running, I also engage in calisthenic workouts. I’ve never been fond of gyms and, although I used to run in the park, having a treadmill eliminates concerns about the weather impacting my workouts. It also saves about 30 minutes, which I would otherwise spend getting ready and driving to and from the park.
Multitasking
When it comes to business work, I am firmly against multitasking. I believe deep focus is essential for achieving goals. However, combining workouts with listening to an audiobook or podcast is a different story. For example, today, I began my exercise session listening to “Someday is Today” by Matthew Dicks. Although it’s a decent book, I quickly lost interest and switched to a podcast instead. One podcast I enjoy (and it’s free) is “The Diary of A CEO” hosted by Steven Bartlett. The episodes are incredibly beneficial, and I learn a lot about business. I’ll share some of the insights I’ve gained and implemented in future articles.
Has Exercise Helped with KDP?
I typically get about 6 hours of sleep a night and previously blamed my fatigue on this lack of sleep. However, despite continuing to sleep the same amount, I now wake up feeling fresh and energetic. I usually wake up around 6:15 am. Since I feel more energetic despite the same sleep schedule, I can only conclude that reintroducing exercise has made the difference.
As I mentioned, I don’t exercise daily, nor do I think it’s necessary. Exercising a few times a week seems sufficient. I highly recommend becoming active to those who don’t exercise. It’s not only beneficial for your health but can also positively impact other areas, like your business.
