Embrace the Magic of Nature

Writing prompt: Why nature is my go-to happy place

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. … There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” Rachel Carson, Silent Spring

Nature has always been an inspiration for humanity, but without a doubt, authors and artists worldwide.

Nature is awe-inspiring and breathtakingly beautiful, and those who spend time in its embrace reap enormous rewards.

While civilization is associated with turmoil, anger, and disappointment, nature is associated with happiness, serenity, and hope.

Studies on Nature

Study after study has discovered that spending time in nature, living near nature, or simply witnessing nature through paintings and movies may influence our minds, bodies, sentiments, mental processes, and social relationships.

Furthermore, spending time in nature has several benefits, such as improved physical and mental health and numerous opportunities for learning and creativity.

Hundreds of research studies have also shown that spending time in nature is an antidote to stress: it may lower blood pressure and cortisol levels, reduce nervous system activity, raise immune system function, promote self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.

Nature and the Pandemic

During the pandemic, many individuals sought refuge in nature and developed a fresh appreciation for local parks and natural spaces.

Nature was one of my family’s outlets during the early months of the pandemic. Our frequent outings around our neighborhood’s parks and walking paths made a difficult period bearable.

We spent time daily outdoors, enjoying long leisurely strolls, observing nature, and capturing its grandeur in photos. It came to be the highlight of our day during the pandemic lockdowns.

Nature remains our go-to happy spot for my daughter and me. We both believe in the power of a stroll/run in the park. It is our principal method of de-stressing and recharging our batteries.

Closing Thoughts

I will close with a quote by John Muir, Our National Parks:

“Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”
