Even the Rain Has a Soul
Something greater than the sum of its droplets

For some people, listening to a recording of rainfall through a decent sound system brings peace and calm. They might even need this type of “white noise” in order to fall asleep.
I can dig that. Completely understandable.
It works for me, too.
But there is an enhanced, deluxe version. Sometimes speakers don’t quite cut it, and you crave something more. However, you may not realize that until a good thunderstorm rolls in and settles over your neighborhood for a while.
For me, it’s one thing to be listening to a lovely pouring rain on a CD or YouTube video or internet streaming site…
But…
…Listening to the rain pound for real, coming down all around you in a prolonged chorus, however, is quite another.
Rain has a voice, which can be heard. Rain also has a soul, which can be felt.
You can feel it, even if you’re inside. It hits the roof. It hits the pavement outside. It fills the air with mist as the drops boomerang off the sidewalk and ricochet off the leaves.
You can not just hear, but feel, the thunder as it rumbles around you.
You can feel the changes in the atmospheric pressure. You can feel the electricity. You can feel the turbulence. You can feel the tumultuousness of Mother Nature throwing a respectable hissy-fit to be reckoned with.
She is the Boss. The reason for everything.
You can almost feel the trees, grass, and other plants drinking it lusciously, gratefully, lovingly. You feel the cleansing effect, the renewal, the reset. You feel the intimate bonds within nature, between the rain and the life it sustains.
You get a giddy feeling with every thunder rumble, every lightning flash, every level darker the sky becomes.
You simply can’t get these elements, these nuances, through speakers.
There is listening to the sound of rain through a good set of speakers (which in itself is wonderful and has its place), and then there’s feeling its full 3D presence around you.
Nature is the ultimate Surround Sound.
That’s the difference between listening to the voice of the rain and feeling its soul, its spirit, all around you.
