Does one clap feel like one slap?

The clap story

I have read many posts on medium about the importance of claps.

I also read an article (I don’t exactly remember from whom) where they said,

One clap feels like one slap on an author’s face.

While I agree with this statement to some extent, my brain also forces me to think, it is still appreciation after all.

Should we get offended by receiving one clap?

Or, we take it as an appreciation?

Well, I’ll definitely vote for taking it as an appreciation.

I mean if someone has hit the clap button, it means they liked your story.

Let’s talk about the reasons behind just one clap.

  • From my experience, most single claps are coming from new writers. This is because they are yet to discover that you can clap up to 50 times on a single story.

It took me few weeks until I found this out

  • Next reason could be some people are not good at expressing their feelings. It’s quite possible that they liked your story, hence one clap. But, they can’t express it as openly as others.
  • Some people don’t want to overdo it. They liked your story but think that giving many claps will be too much.
  • Some are just lazy to hit clap many times.
  • Last but not the least, some might not find it good enough to be worthy of more than 1 clap.

While it doesn’t matter for many that how many claps they give or get, it works great for boosting the morale of a many writers.

You don’t even know how you helped someone, bringing them one step closer to their goals by just giving them 50 claps.

Like honestly, I instantly get cheered up as soon as I see somebody clapping 50 times on my story.

I’m sure, it works for you the same way too!

I recently read one very nice article on “Importance of claps for writers” by Dr. Preeti Singh

This article gave me an insight of how claps can help a writer recognize his own worth and how we can help and motivate each other.

After reading this article, I try my best to give 50 claps to each story that I liked.

This world is full of negativities, sadness and problems. If one simple act of ours is sure to bring smile and motivation to someone, there is no harm in doing it.

With lots of love and luck..

Signing off,

Priyanka
