Different Types of Wolves Are Finally Coming to Minecraft
Finally, we can tell our wolves apart.

In my past stories, I’ve talked about all sorts of things related to Minecraft. You can check those out at the end of this post. Today, I want to chat about the next cool thing coming to Minecraft: new types of wolves!
If you’ve ever hesitated to take your Minecraft wolf on an adventure because of creepers and pillagers, then guess what? Big news! Mojang just announced on Twitter that wolves are getting a major update in Minecraft, with new variants and armor.
While these changes are still in progress, you can test them out by enabling snapshots for Minecraft: Java Edition or in the previews/beta for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
Finally, I’ll be able to distinguish my pack of wolves without needing tons of nametags and a magnifying glass, and I can give them the protection they deserve.
This update is long overdue. Cats had 11 variants when they were released back in 2012. You’ll still find and tame the original wolf (now called the pale wolf) in the taiga biome, but there are also rusty, spotted, black, striped, snowy, ashen, woods, and chestnut wolves to discover and add to your pack. Some will be harder to find than others, but with a keen eye, you’ll collect them all in no time.
The new wolf armor will absorb all enemy damage until it breaks, “protecting your wolf’s hearts from those pesky creeper blasts,” as stated in a Minecraft blog post. You can even repair the armor on the go using armadillo scutes. Additionally, adult wolves will now have 40 hearts instead of 20, making your beloved pets safer than ever.
Final Words
While Minecraft’s revamped wolves aren’t in an official release of the game right now, they can currently be tested by installing the most recent snapshot, which also features the long-requested wolf armor.
Of course, the Minecraft community was thrilled by the long-awaited announcement, with a few players sharing that the update was enough to draw them back into the game.
