Did You Know that Illumination is a Very Spiritual Publication?
After reading this article you, KTHT writers and others, should know that
The spiritual community on Medium felt a core-shaking 9.0 Richter scale tremor in its mantle a few days ago when Diana C. suddenly announced that the most spiritual publication on Medium, Know Thyself, Heal Thyself, would, effective two days ago, stop taking submissions until further notice, or as us lawyers (not many know that I am based upon the bulk of my articles, as opposed to that one, or this one) say, sine die.
Diana did not take this step because of the trolls attacking spiritual writers on Medium. Rather, Diana acted in furtherance of the most spiritual of all spiritual principles — self-love — the generosity of putting one’s own oxygen mask on first — people cannot selflessly serve those they love through self-sacrifice. As I wrote recently in response to Ravyne Hawke’s prompt to write a “generous” poem:
Giving you 11:11 wish Eternal and free love shall thee receive Noble friendships upon your life lavish Everlasting contentment do believe Result of that kind bounty please achieve Openhanded offer overflowing Selfless but without self-sacrificing Infinite inexhaustible galore True love unconditional unsparing Young big-hearted benevolence adore
Diana wrote in her announcement:
A detox from Medium has been weighing on my mind for months, but I never got myself to do it out of fear of unknown and out of fear of letting everyone down. For two years, I have published submissions every day and committed myself to writing every other day. I have seen many writers come and go. I have witnessed loads of platform changes.
My body, my mind and spirit now signal that prioritizing my mental health is a must. It’s also a good time to re-evaluate the reasons I started writing and editing on this platform in the first place. It’s time to figure out what needs to be done next.
I applaud you Diana for embracing yourself and, another spiritual pillar, as Patrick Paul Garlinger wrote about in a KTHT piece over a year ago, uncertainty.
“Is that scary? Yes, sometimes. The ego will delight for a bit, and then say, But what about this next moment? This one might be dangerous. Life, in this way, when you let go and allow yourself to be carried, can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster: You know that you’re still held in place, strapped in tight, and yet the twists and turns can still be exhilarating. Embrace uncertainty, and let the universe take you on the ride of your life.”
Thank you, Diana, for trying to assuage your writers’ (of which I am one) uncertainty and recommending me and ILLUMINATION to your flock:
Meanwhile, you can submit your spiritual articles to pubs such as Coffee Times run by Winston and a few other wonderful co-editors, Queen’s Children run by my dear friend Jean Carfantan, Gentle Ambassadors run by Bingz Huang & Camille Grady and, of course, Illumination, where Marcus can help you with editing and some words of encouragement.
I wholeheartedly endorse each of Diana’s other suggestions. I have written for Queen’s Children for a year as well. I think very highly of Winston (see his welcoming announcement here), Bingz, and especially Cammie, whom I adore and helped mentor to the amazing writer that she is today through her submissions to my pub, ChannSpirations and Coincidences, where I celebrate synchronicities and the every-person-portal. As I have written, I firmly believe that truly spiritual pubs should not be territorial and should cross-pollinate our messages and that writers are best served and reach a wider audience by writing for multiple publications. I believe each of these writers also writes for Illumination.
The tone of publications is set by their owners and their editors, which is why KTHT is so great — because Diana is THE BOMB. As is Dr Mehmet Yildiz, who, much to the chagrin of trolls, has always welcomed all points of view and writer abilities, which is the essence of spirituality (our only rule is writers may not violate Medium guidelines and policies).
As I recently learned about from Nate Muller, and wrote about in my Marriage of Philosophy and Spirituality, A foundation of principled pillars upon which to build a highly content life in ILLUMINATION-Curated (our publication for discerning readers which I expect would be available to most writers from KTHT), Voltaire said:
“Think for yourself, and let others enjoy the privilege to do so, too.”
Muller explains:
I find this quote more pronounced than the misattributed quote. Because in philosophy, thinking for yourself is a superpower and we, as free thinkers, should teach others to unlock this amazing superpower.
Moreover, Mehmet has recently come out of his metal-head shell and written fabulously spiritual articles, such as:
Why Do I Believe in Angels? Because they touched on my heart, mind, and soul in the most challenging times at crossroads
Learning About Cosmology Can Make Us Less Judgmental & More Open-Minded for Spiritual Growth, Who doesn’t ask the questions of who we are, why we are here, and what our destiny is?
If you need further evidence of Illumination as a spiritual pub, please see these stories I have created, and will continue to create, featuring spiritual stories from our pub.
Thank you for reading. If you would like to be added as a writer to Illumination, or to my pub ChannSpirations and Coincidences, please drop your Medium ID in a comment. I note that Illumination’s editors include these other members of the KTHT community: Tree Langdon Agnes Laurens Dr. Preeti Singh JS Adam.
In Rama I create, with soul-energy surging through my body, inspiring me and breathing wind into my sails,
