Generosity

An acrostic dizain

Giving you 11:11 wish Eternal and free love shall thee receive Noble friendships upon your life lavish Everlasting contentment do believe Result of that kind bounty please achieve Openhanded offer overflowing Selfless but without self-sacrificing Infinite inexhaustible galore True love unconditional unsparing Young big-hearted benevolence adore

Ravyne Hawke’s poetry prompt for November 8th inspired this poem:

Write a ‘generous’ poem.

Poetry Form — Any Line Length — up to ten lines Restrictions — line length

Upon seeing the 10-line maximum, I decided to write a dizain, which I learned from Agnes Laurens and Somsubhra Banerjee has ten 10-syllable lines with the following rhyme scheme: ababbccdcd.

As synchronicity would have it, I published my last piece, which responded to another of Ravyne’s prompts, at precisely 11:11 pm.

Melanie J. texted me asking me if I had done that purposely. Only upon seeing her text did it dawn on me that not only did the clock show 11:11 but that it happened on November 11th. Thus I decided to incorporate that into this poem and after seeing what else those numbers mean, to get creative and incorporate lots of synonyms for “generous.”

The only other lines I shall decode are:

Everlasting contentment do believe Result of that kind bounty please achieve

I do not believe in the pursuit of happiness. Happiness, and sadness, not to be confused with depression, are but fleeting emotions that come and go and serve their signaling purposes. I seek contentment, which is not settling but a hopefully high-altitude baseline, coming from within and connection to without. It doesn’t stem from the acquisition of attachments but awareness of connection to the world and the universe as a living, breathing, and heart-beating organism and from the alignment of mind and soul and discerning my why — my drive — from discovering who I am at my core.

I think this time I’ll skip the friend and poets tagging and see how that works out and house this in Agnes’ poetry pub.

Here’s another poem about generosity, which responded to the day-25 prompt (“generosity ripples outward”) in Diana C.’s jump-in-at-any-time-30-in-30-poetry-challenge.

In Rama I create, with soul-energy surging through my body, inspiring me and breathing wind into my sails,
