Summary

The publication "Know Thyself, Heal Thyself" (KTHT) is taking an indefinite hiatus starting from the 16th of November due to the editor's need to prioritize mental health and re-evaluate the publication's direction.

Abstract

The editor of "Know Thyself, Heal Thyself" has announced an immediate pause on publishing new submissions, effective from the 16th of November, to focus on personal well-being and to reassess the initial motivations for writing and editing on the platform. This decision comes after a period of daily submissions and bi-daily writing, amidst significant changes on Medium and a personal desire for a detox from the platform. Despite offers to delegate the editing role, the editor insists on a personal break to explore new projects and horizons. The editor expresses uncertainty about the future direction of Medium and believes this is an opportune moment for reflection and reinvention. Although the break was initially planned for December, the editor's upcoming birthday and the stress of moving necessitated an earlier start. The editor remains hopeful that readers and contributors will return upon the publication's resumption and trusts that paths will cross again. The editor will continue to publish today's submissions and the final edition of the collaborative prompts, while keeping followers updated on Ko-Fi and Slack. Alternative publications for spiritual articles are suggested for continued readership and contribution. The editor expresses gratitude towards collaborators and wishes everyone happy holidays if not back before Christmas, emphasizing that life is about the journey, not a set of rules.

Opinions

  • The editor feels that a break is necessary to address their mental health and to realign with the original purpose of the publication.
  • There is a sense of uncertainty and a need for reinvention both personally and for the publication.
  • The editor values the community built around KTHT and is optimistic about future interactions, regardless of the hiatus.
  • The decision to take a break was not made lightly and was accelerated by personal life events such as a birthday and moving.

Know Thyself, Heal Thyself is Taking a Break Until Further Notice

Thank you for understanding.

As of tomorrow, 16th of November, Know Thyself, Heal Thyself is taking a break from publishing submissions until further notice.

A detox from Medium has been weighing on my mind for months, but I never got myself to do it out of fear of unknown and out of fear of letting everyone down. For two years, I have published submissions every day and committed myself to writing every other day. I have seen many writers come and go. I have witnessed loads of platform changes.

My body, my mind and spirit now signal that prioritizing my mental health is a must. It’s also a good time to re-evaluate the reasons I started writing and editing on this platform in the first place. It’s time to figure out what needs to be done next.

People have offered to take up the editing role for me, but that’s not what this is about. This is about reinventing myself and the publication. This is about new projects and new horizons. I don’t know where Medium is heading — nobody knows. That’s why, perhaps, this is the best time to take a break. I’m not saying goodbye, I’m just saying “see you later, alligator!”

The initial plan was to announce this break in December, after finishing the collaborative prompts project. Unfortunately, my well-being can’t wait until then. With my birthday coming up in two days and the stress caused by moving, actions had to be taken now. Today.

I hope that, upon my return, those of you who enjoyed KTHT and what it stands for will still be here, but even if you’re not, I’m sure that our paths will cross again, somehow, at some point. I’m a firm believer that, eventually, everything works out for the best. We need to trust the journey even when we don’t understand it.

With that being said, I will still publish today’s submissions and the last edition of the collaborative prompts next Monday. Other than that, KTHT will be quiet, but you can always reread your favorite stories by accessing the archive. I will keep you updated on Ko-Fi or Slack about what’s going on and I might read articles now and then, but that’s it.

Meanwhile, you can submit your spiritual articles to pubs such as Coffee Times run by Winston and a few other wonderful co-editors, Queen’s Children run by my dear friend Jean Carfantan, Gentle Ambassadors run by Bingz Huang & Camille Grady and, of course, Illumination, where Marcus can help you with editing and some words of encouragement.

Thank you to everyone who collaborated with me, who put their trust and time into KTHT and into me as an editor. See you again soon! If I’m not back before Christmas, I wish you Happy Holidays with your loved ones.

Remember, there is no wrong or right way to do life. There just is.
