Abstract

uidelines and other helpful guides and newsletters. Reading these things keeps you up to date and informed about how our publication works. Most newsletters receive less than 10 reads! These newsletters are critical to staying informed and for learning new tips and tricks. This guide (as of April 1, 2021, 2 months after publishing) has received less than 165 views out of the hundreds of writers we have here. I publish these guides to make sure your questions are answered. Samantha and I both receive messages and questions all hours of the day and night — and we both work full time. It can easily get overwhelming, however helpful we want to be. To answer questions more efficiently, we do it with newsletters and guides.

Submission guidelines make it clear: we allow up to one week for publishing. Although we often work much quicker than that, please allow us to pace your poems and for us to manage other things we have going on. If your poem comes in and there are 20 others in cue, we cannot get it published the same day. Spacing allows your poem more time at the top of the wall. Also, life happens. Occasionally we have other things to do and may not get to all of the submissions on a given day. Your patience helps the editors to work more efficiently. We are also working to make editorial suggestions on some submissions to improve the quality of our content here at The POM — and we are receiving more curations because of those efforts. This is for the good of all of our work and the reputation of our publication.

Follow and read the newsletter! There’s a tab on our publication where the latest newsletters can be found if you missed any of them.

Read, clap, highlight, comment, and support the work of others. Share your favorites on your social media using the handy-dandy share buttons that Medium provides for us. If you want to leave helpful suggestions or tips for other poets, please do so in the private messaging feature and do so with tact. Perhaps, ask if they would like some feedback before doing so.

My poem got rejected or I keep getting “editorial notes”

Here are some of the common problems that will hold up your submission:

Help! I want to submit to The POM. How do I do that?

I am a writer for The POM: How can I make it a positive experience for all?

Now that you’re in, you can call yourself a POMpoet. Together, we are the POMfam. And your editors (◦•●Christina M. Ward ●•◦ and Samantha Lazar) want all of us to be successful, to grow, and to celebrate poetry together. To do that, we do need a few rules:

 • Please do not message the editors privately with questions unless you have first referred to our submission guidelines and other helpful guides and newsletters.
 • Submission guidelines make it clear: we allow up to one week for publishing.
 • Follow and read the newsletter! There’s a tab on our publication where the latest newsletters can be found if you missed any of them.
 • Read, clap, highlight, comment, and support the work of others. Share your favorites on your social media using the handy-dandy share buttons that Medium provides for us. If you want to leave helpful suggestions or tips for other poets, please do so in the private messaging feature and do so with tact. Perhaps, ask if they would like some feedback before doing so.
