Counter-Strike 2 Has Officially Been Released

The sequel to CS:GO is finally here

So, in my past rants, I’ve chatted about a bunch of those badass FPS (First Person Shooter) games, and you can find those bad boys linked at the bottom of this post.

But today, we’re gonna dive headfirst into the juicy details of Counter-Strike 2, the sequel we’ve all been waiting for forever to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here — Counter-Strike 2 is officially out and ready to rock your world! The Limited Test phase has waved its goodbyes, paving the way for the full game’s release on Steam, and guess what? It’s absolutely free!

Now, if you’re already a CS:GO enthusiast, you’re in for a treat. All you need to do is sit tight, and your game will magically transform into CS2 thanks to a nifty update. But here’s the twist: if you’ve never dipped your toes into the world of CS:GO or, heaven forbid, uninstalled it, don’t sweat it! Just head over to the Counter-Strike 2 page on Steam, and you can download the new game right there.

Here’s the cherry on top: all your hard-earned progress and fancy cosmetics from CS:GO will seamlessly transfer over to CS2. Yep, that means you won’t lose any of those cool skins and sprays you’ve invested in. It’s like a win-win for all you dedicated CS:GO veterans.

Now, let’s talk game, shall we? Even though CS2 technically started as an update to CS:GO, it’s pretty much like the launch of a whole new Counter-Strike universe. The game engine got a major facelift, and trust me, everything feels different — in a good way. And there are some epic gameplay changes, too.

One of the absolute game-changers is the new smoke grenade physics. These babies fill spaces like never before, and the best part? You can disperse them with HE grenades. Watch out, because this new tactic is expected to take top-level play by storm. It’s like a breath of fresh air (well, smoky air) for CS aficionados.

But there’s a teeny tiny catch. With the spiffy new engine, CS2 demands more computing power to run smoothly. So, if your PC is a relic from the past, you might struggle a bit.

But hey, that’s progress for you. Interestingly, during the Limited Test period, some high-spec machine owners reported performance issues. We’re not entirely sure if those got ironed out for the full release, but hey, fingers crossed!

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room — those sub-tick servers. They were supposed to be an upgrade from the old 64-tick servers in CS:GO. However, the new system, which keeps tabs on inputs between server ticks, has left some players feeling that movement and shooting can be a bit off at times. Don’t worry, though; the CS community is all about adapting and mastering the new tricks.

The launch came fashionably late, as Valve initially teased a Summer 2023 release. But hey, considering Valve’s track record, this delay is hardly a surprise. They did, however, manage to hit the date they teased just a week ago, which silenced some of the skeptics out there.

Now, brace yourselves for a bit of bittersweet news. This launch marks the end of an era for CS:GO. The OG version of the game is pretty much heading into retirement for most players. The pro scene, with its ongoing tournaments like the ESL Pro League, will wrap things up on CS:GO and then make a graceful transition to CS2 as the main competitive game.

Final Words

CS:GO has been an absolute legend, one of the best games of all time, and it’s left an indelible mark on the esports industry.

Rest in peace, CS:GO; you’ll always have a special place in our hearts.
