Could Dwayne be the murderer?
‘Death in Paradise’: S1.E8. “Amongst Us”…

The Death in Paradise first series finale, originally televised in the British Isles on Tuesday, 13 Dec. 2011, puts Saint Marie police officers in a serious pickle. Everyone familiar with the BBC One police procedural knows Officer Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) is a lady’s man.
Dwayne, never one to turn down an opportunity to show a lady a good time, delights in showing off. It’s what he does best. Naturally, when Dwayne crosses paths with Nadia Selim (Randiane Naly), the officer doesn’t disappoint.
Unfortunately, when Nadia is discovered murdered in her bed the following morning, Dwayne’s happiness quickly sours. Coins are found in her mouth. The house is ransacked. Initial appearances, except for the coins shoved in Nadia’s mouth, suggests a burglary gone wrong. Dwayne’s police identification is discovered under Nadia’s bed.

Detective Inspector Richard Poole (Ben Miller), much to the teams outrage, refuses to break protocol and treats Dwayne just like any other murder suspect. Nadia, who was actually named Rose Duchamp, was an informant about to expose a money laundering scandal. The team, until Richard takes a closer look at the evidence, struggle to find evidence to catch Rose’s murderer.
Meanwhile, on a more personal note for Officer Fidel Best (Gary Carr), Juliet Best goes into labour and gives birth to a daughter… Rosie.
Detective Inspector Chris Ricketts (John Thomson), trying to get a handle on the case without attracting too much attention, stays close to the investigation as much as he can. Something strange is afoot.
Curiously, elsewhere, it looks like Catherine Bordey (Élizabeth Bourgine) has found herself a love-interest. Aidan Miles (Adrian Dunbar), as if butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, initially appears like he could be the ideal catch. His behaviour, at least towards Catherine, is exemplary. The perfect gentleman. Or is he? Nadia Selim is Aidan Miles spelled backwards. Please tell me I’m wrong. It couldn’t be that simple.
