A Pure Fiction Writer’s Challenge

Hello wonderful writers and readers of Pure Fiction! KL Simmons and JA Vassili have been on hiatus; our life, work and children have needed our attention for a blink — but we have not forgotten you. We’ve been hatching our plots and making our plans for the next Pure Fiction Writer’s Challenge!

It’s all about change…

Our world faces great shifts both existential and spiritual. So much we took for granted has gone away; disruption to routine is the new normal. Climate change transforms our planet; many of us live in countries confronting political uncertainty and upheaval. Each of us faces change as we move through life; and, on top of everything else, summer is coming, and the change of seasons brings us all to a new place physically, emotionally, mentally and, for some, spiritually. Our moods or desires and activities may shift to meet the new season….

It is a time of change.

We writers embrace our art to keep us steady through these shifts.

We want to read your chronicles, your stories, your tidbits on the theme of change. We don’t care if it’s a change of clothes, perspective, habitat, habits or if you are transforming into a vampire or unicorn. Hit us with your change, we want to read those stories.

A few things to be aware of:

This is a challenge, not a competition so there is no deadline — but since this is our summer challenge, we’d love to read it before the end of the summer!

As always, we will read all your submissions and we ask you all to read each other’s too.

All subject matter is welcome so long as the theme of ‘change’ is included in some way.

The Prompt: write a story on the theme of change; for extra kicks you could write in the style of your preferred summer-reading genre (if you have no preferred summer-reading genre consider writing in the style of your favorite all-seasons-reading genre).
