WRITING|CALL FOR WRITERS
This Publication is Seeking Writers Who Want to Become Better at Writing Fiction
“Pure Fiction” is a new publication that wants to help you improve your fiction writing
Here’s a note from JA Vassili who loves to write fiction and wants to help people, like me, who are relatively new at writing fiction.
Pure fiction is for writers who wish to tackle fiction for the first time in a positive supportive space.
It’s a landing spot for those who write for the joy of writing .
We don’t need you to please the algorithm, or conform to any specific genre.
Our editors can help guide you if you want to workshop your piece or simply provide a space for others to experience you through your fiction.
We are seeking writers.
If you, or anyone you know, have fictional stories that you’d like to share, or want help in creating, leave a comment with your Medium handle (“@….”) in the response section.
We will add you as a writer.
Our goal is to publish stories within 24 hours.
The Basic Rules:
1- Write something that is fictional.
2- Nothing hateful or harmful towards others.
3- Do not plagiarize.
4- Proofread submissions.
We will do our best to catch typos and grammar mistakes. However, it is up to each writer to put forth their best work. Don’t expect us to find and correct errors.
Last, but not least…
Fiction writing is not my strength. Non-fiction writing is.
However, I would like to write a “coming of age” fictional book at some point, thus my desire to improve my fiction writing abilities.
I’d also like to write children’s books in the future, especially ones that appeal to adults as well, such as: The Little Prince and Hope for the Butterflies.
Fictional writing is fun for me, but it’s also a lot more work because I’m not used to it so it doesn’t come nearly as naturally as non-fiction writing.
JA Vassili has been helping with it over the past year and wants to helps others as well.
Here’s what she has to say about this:
I am excited to read people’s pieces! As a newbie to non-fiction writing, I’ve enjoyed leaving my natural habitat (fiction) to explore this new format. KL Simmons was instrumental helping me navigate the new terrain. I’m honored to join her as co-editor of Pure Fiction; we want this publication to be a non-judgmental, supportive space for writers new to fiction. For me its about the love of writing and reading…
We simply want to open up this love and appreciation of fictional writing, particularly short stories, in an atmosphere and setting that is inspiring, supportive and nurturing.
We are open to suggestions as to how to go about this as well.
Feel free to leave them in your responses.
The following are excerpts from a few fictional stories that Jenny and I have written over the past year:
To the Federal Bacon Committee, June 28th 2030
re: Bacon Privilege consideration for Jason J Jimerbody, Esquire, the 3rd.
Dear Sirs (and Madam),
I am writing in the hope my application for this year’s Bacon Privilege will be accepted, and that I shall finally be among those lucky few who are afforded the honor and responsibility of twelve strips of Bacon.
He told me that it was the phone call and my demeanor that made him share so much with me. He could sense my nervousness.
I had not one piece of nail left to bite and could not stop shaking my foot the entire time we talked. I took a deep breath and tried to relax my nerves when he smiled at me again and took a deep breath himself. My foot stopped shaking.
I smiled back at him and thanked him for reminding me that I might get the chance to be in the delivery room with my sister for her next baby and that everything will be okay.
“How were you a creep?”
Stringy-Hair said: “I was trying to get to the station, and I saw this woman, she was so beautiful. And I stared at her and she said something so loud and I gave her a weird look because what she said annoyed me and she saw me staring at her and got scared and ran away.”
“What did she say that annoyed you?”
“If I tell you you’ll definitely think I’m a creep.”
I wanted to know if there were any more women like Starfish who felt something like a “death and rebirth” after climaxing.
I work with a ton of women and created an anonymous online survey that I shared with all of them. I also shared the link on every single one of my social media sites.
My curiosity was piqued, and I wanted to get some real answers from real people, not just read obscure statistics that other, oftentimes male, researchers procured.
