Lawson Wallace —62-year-old married guy, I have been writing stories for years, but never submitted or published anything. I write about my successes and failures, everything.

Barney rested his head on the bed and whined, the bad smell filled his nostrils causing him to bare his teeth in a snarl. “ I hate the bad thing.” He thought as mom protested having to get out of bed.

Dad helped mom get out of bed. Barney whined as he followed the couple to the dining room. Mom’s brother had set the cake on the table.

Barney snorted when he saw Larry standing by the dining table. He ran to the man his stubby tail wagging. “ Hey Barney, how ya doing?”

They wanted to be happy again so badly

The memory of that day had been pivotal in her life. Her father had purchased tickets to see Henry VI. He was as careful a planner as Jamie was, and also a fierce advocate for justice. There were many a meal where he was absent, and almost as many where dinner was an open discussion about modern-day laws’ troubles. As a police sergeant, Richard was lovingly called Dick by those closest to him. He wasn’t lost to the humor of the double-edged meaning of the nickname. In love, anger, or jest, the nickname stuck. While he wasn’t a fan of theatre, he knew how important it was to his daughter. Dick used that day to change her designs on her future plans to join the police force. After the play was over, and the playbill lovingly rested on her lap during the drive home, Dick introduced the topic of his frustration with the law and how much worth Jamie could provide to the system with her love for justice.

Alize Henry — I write sci-fi, fiction short story series, poems, and articles on current concerns. https://medium.com/@alize-henry

To add more valiant fun to the games of the festivities, three brothers of the king suggested playing “Lottery Queen”, a game they’d played in their youth. The rules of the game were simple.

Choose three women fit for a king. Give them each an object. If the king chooses any one of the women holding the object, she is chosen to become the queen for the day.

The brothers put one more rule in the game unbeknown to the king. This would be a true lottery allowing eight additional women to the game. They were only proxies and were allowed to take part in the “king’s item choices” of the game. The villagers gathered around watching in hushed expectancy as the lottery game began, and the four objects were laid out.

Gerald Washington — A curious one, Writer & Poet , History lover, and a fan of Häagan Dazs Ice Cream

They were used to leaving early on inventory days, so the disappointment they felt was ready to erupt from within. Before they could leave the building. The big bosses wanted all the workers to head to the break room to receive whatever mystery rewards they had for them.

‘’Whatever they have for us better be a $1,000 gift card’’, said Nolan. Leah laughed at Nolan’s statement. ‘’That would be the day, we would all be rich if we got that from Wireworks’’, Leah replied. ‘’Yes indeed’’, Nolan added. They both entered the break room to join the rest of their co-workers who were standing up and waiting to see what the big bosses had to say.

Lisa Osborne — Specializing in personal stories, recipes, and book reviews. Dabbling in fiction. Connecting with others through their personal lived history.

“This is so silly!” she harrumphed. “Why am I suddenly interested in how my body looks?”

Eliza leaned forward and dunked her head under the cold water bringing her thoughts back to reality. She used her nails to loosen any dirt and debris. That would have to do for now.

She found a large rock to sit on. While the sun warmed her skin, she absently used her fingers to comb out the tangles while her hair dried in waves down her back. She watched the stream roll by while her mind kept drifting to thoughts of Henry; his large hands, the way he brushed his hair out of his eyes.

She tried to think about other things. Figuring out why those men were after her, she wasn’t even from this area. It was puzzling.
