A TO Z PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE
Breathtaking Beaches in the Bay and Boundless Beauty Between the Bushes
Taking you along on a journey through my life around the world

There’s nothing more rewarding than playing with words and pictures and creating something new out of yet another writing challenge.
While my brain is searching for nouns starting with the letter B and adverbs to describe those items, my eyes search through folders of images.
I know, my choice of pictures has been slimmed down due to the loss of my hard drives, but as my husband said, now I just have to take new pictures and create new memories.
So here we go.
The bay
Let’s start with some aerial views from where I live right now. The town of Swakopmund is just 30 kilometers away from the next nearest city, Walvis Bay.
It’s a beautiful bay in Namibia along the famous skeleton coast. Dunes are surrounding the bay from the one side, while the blue of the ocean is the border on the other side.

The beach
Yes, if I am talking about a coastline, I can’t continue without talking about beaches. And no, Namibia does not have tropical beaches. The weather on the coast is too cool, and the ocean too rough. And cold as well.
But Namibia has beaches where the red sand of the desert mixes with the fine sand of the ocean. A sight like no other in the world.
Beaches in the desert. This is not something you won’t find anywhere else so easily.

The bushes
Even though this town is located inside the oldest desert in the world, the Namib, you can still find lots of vegetation. Indigenous ones and those bushes brought in and planted by humans.
Bushes and palm trees make the desert seem a little more lively.

The blossoms
And on those bushes, you’ll see blossoms appearing when the northern hemisphere is experiencing the first frost. Flowers are blooming in all kinds of colors decorating the walkway along the beach.

The braai
A braai is the Afrikaans word for barbecue, but a braai is not a barbecue. You braai with wood and not with charcoal (or, even worse, gas).
A braai is not just a way of cooking as you are preparing a meal. A braai is a religion. It’s about family, brandy and coke and the men. Of course, the man in the house has to braai.
Hence I chose this picture below.

The board in a backpack
Let’s continue with the things I love that start with the letter b. A board. My paddleboard traveled with me from Germany to Thailand and back again. Now it arrived in Namibia.
I’ve been paddling on that board on the Baltic sea in Poland, in crystal clear waters in Thailand, and now again on the Atlantic Ocean in Namibia.

The bracelets as beachwear
This is a little bit of a lie. Not because I don’t wear bracelets on the beach but because I wear my bracelets everywhere. Everyday.
So no, they aren’t just beachwear. But they are also part of my beachwear.
Bracelets from around the world.

The baggage on the bicycle
Earlier this year, I went on several trips with my husband. I would take the rollerblades while David would ride a bicycle. And on that bicycle, he had to carry some extra baggage.
My camera bag.
