Writing — Photography

Eating Apples and Avocados While Arranging Alligators and Autumn Leaves in Atlanta?

An A to Z challenge: Finding interesting new ways to enjoy photography

A halved avocado with wine and cheese. Yum! — Photo by JoAnn Ryan

An unlikely situation you say? Ok, perhaps. Do they even have alligators in Atlanta? Does it stay too warm in the winter for leaves to fall there in autumn? (I’ve only visited Atlanta in the summer, so really can’t be certain.)

Am I just being too silly for words? What I really wanted to do was create a great excuse for amassing together a few of my favorite photos starting with the letter ‘A’.

Avocados

People seem to love ’em or hate ’em. I’m a huge avocado lover, and love photographing them just as much as I love eating them.

The colors themselves are interesting, don’t you think? Such a pleasing array of greens and yellows paired with the earthy tone of the pit. Throw in some good quality gouda cheese and some cheap “wine”.

What I was really doing here was pretending to be a famous food photographer!

The best thing about shooting food is that you can then eat your photo subjects. Yum!

Apples

This was another of my foodie photography “experiments” where I pretended to be a famous food photographer. Caramel and apples is so delish!

This photo is pretty old, I could shoot it a lot better these days, I’m sure. It’s a bit fuzzy.

Alligators

We saw this sleeping alligator while taking a tour of the beautiful St. John’s River in Florida. It was such a lovely time seeing the river and all the wildlife there.

If you’re ever in Florida and have the chance, I highly recommend Blue Heron River Tours. It was fab!

Atlanta

This photo was taken when I visited the lovely city of Atlanta, GA last September.

The highlight of the trip was visiting Martin Luther King, Jr. World Peace Rose Garden, which is part of the larger memorial dedicated to his legacy, The King Center.

You can read more about that here via Vocal: “From Georgia with Love: Roses as a Reminder of Beauty, World Peace and Embracing Imperfection”.

Atlantic City

Almost forgot Atlantic City! You can check out one photo I posted from there here:

This was from my visit last year to my home state of Idaho. I’ve already written about that plenty.

Beloved daughter and hubby!

Oh snap, but I can’t forget that both my daughter and my husband have first names starting with ‘A’: Alana and Andy. Can’t leave out the most important and beloved people in my life!

Isn’t she just a lovely lady? This was on one of our many visits to Central Park, my favorite place to go in NYC.

Here is hubby Andy. Please forgive me for the shirtless photo… but he’s a bit of a hunk, don’t you think? I call this his terminator look.

Your Turn: The Challenge!

Now it’s your turn. It’s an easy game to play. To begin, simply find your favorite photos where the subject starts with ‘A’.

Coming up with an inventive, fun and perhaps silly title is a big bonus, but for the more refined among you it’s completely unnecessary.

Inspiration for this challenge

Rhonda Carrier has so many fabulous ideas when it comes to photography. Always gives me a lot of inspiration!

The other day she posted about a photography group on Facebook she belongs to, and the subject that week was ‘W’:

Sounded like a great idea to me!

Over at Globetrotters, we have an ongoing prompt that a lot of our writers have participated in called “The A to Z of My Travel Destinations” started by Sam Millichap and popularized by Adrienne Beaumont. While I’ve probably been to plenty of places starting with each letter of the alphabet, I’m seriously lacking in photos. Plus, most of those places would be limited to the few countries I’ve been to thus far: Mexico, Canada, Trinidad and of course the U.S.

Boring!

Perhaps one day after visiting many more of the countries I fully intend on traveling to I can participate. For now, I will suffice with this photography challenge, because I have plenty of photos!

Tagging some people who might want to participate:

Vidya, Anne, Jillian, B.R. Shenoy, Mary, pockett dessert, Rhonda, Dr. Preeti Singh, Erika, arun, Osan, Allisonn, Ellie, Rodrigo, Barb, Divina, Penny, Sinus, Aarti, Suntonu, Robert, Vanessa, Nishan, Janin, Sharing Words, Darren, Roshana, Jeanine, Gerad, Todd, The Truth As I Know It, Ronald, Wendi, Nella, Robert, Pulpo, Jane, Sanghita, Jerry, Casandra, B A Little, Natalie, Paul
