Be Aware of Hacking, Cloning, Spam, and Critical Alerts on Medium and Beyond

Todays Reality:
Hacking of Medium and Personal accounts…Hacking of e-mails… Spam Mail …Cyber attacks …Breaking into Websites…It is not just happening on Medium it is happening everywhere.
It is essential to protect your accounts and watch out for your friend’s accounts as well.
Recently multiple people from Medium had been cloned and fake messages had been sent out in their names. People who had been attacked include people with high following Aiden (Illumination Gaming), Dr Mehmet Yildiz, and Jan Sebastian 🖐👩🦰. I had received fake robot messages from their accounts multiple times.
One way to identify these bots and fake people is that they usually only have 1 or no followers while Dr Mehmet Yildiz has 84 thousand followers for example.
Also, the message will be weird it would not be something a writer would send. If you are unsure do not respond.
Dr Mehmet Yildiz put out an alert for scammers.

“Fake accounts on Medium pose a grave threat to writers akin to hate speech and defamation due to their potential to manipulate, deceive, and damage a writer’s reputation and readership.”
I agee with Dr Mehmet Yildiz. It is a great threat when someone poses as you and could potentially hurt another person financially or emotionally. Please watch out for these scammers and hackers. If you are uncertain do not answer and reach out to the person directly via e-mail, slack, social media, etc to see what is going on.
Unfortunately, someone also tried to hack into DEP’s e-mail. This morning I woke up to a critical alert from Google to change my password and create a 2 step identification to prevent a hack to our e-mail account. This creates difficulty in collaboration with all the editors when we create our books together.
My website www.gabriellakorosi.org which I also use for Dancing Elephants Press gets attacks from all over the world. I get a weekly alert list of hacks I am considering not renewing my website contract. I am getting so many alerts and spam contacts that it is overwhelming.
An example of spam I received from my website contact form. If you receive any messages that are suspicious delete them/report them immediately.
Another message promising money…whenever anybody promises money it is likely to be a fake attempt to get money scammed from you.
What to do:
- Make sure you protect your accounts.
- Create a 2-step identification process when possible.
- To report spam activities on Medium you can go to the 3 dots … and report spam, on your e-mail there is also a report spam option
- Block the people who create spam from your account
- Alert the person when you notice these activities of hacks into their accounts
- If you are uncertain do not open or reply to a message and do not call any numbers to go to websites directed.
