How to Grow Your Personal Brand as a Writer on Medium

Just writing every day is not enough

Writers not only have to write, but they also have to read and analyze the information and then deliver in their writing their version of everything they learned.

“It is not an easy job, creating new content in a world where we are saturated with information. But it is not impossible to always deliver something interesting to your readers.”

Everything is a matter of taking the time and the most important thing to start writing.

“A good writer finds what is missing. They look where no one else looks.”

This is also a difficult job to execute.

However, fortunately, the answers are simple:

For your content to have good results, you have to do it right:

Create good content. You have to read quality content, interesting, entertaining, fun, teach. Improvisation is not worth it. (What works is that you have a plan and a specific process to guide you.) Also, remember that the content does not have to be written articles, it can be videos, podcasts, infographics. Find the format that best suits you.

Post frequently. If you have your Medium account, and your content is not published frequently, you will not have evidence in the publications and your marketing will not work. You have to create a posting calendar and be consistent in order to build an audience.

Target your ideal reader. It is vital that your content focuses on the interests of your ideal reader. It does not matter how many followers you have if it is not made up of people who are interested in reading your content. You have to direct your content to meet the needs of your followers.

Spread the word. It is about reaching the largest possible number of people with these contents. So you must use all the options at your fingertips to multiply the exposure of the content you generate (social networks, newsletter, etc.)

(Currently, it is a part that I have yet to develop, to be honest. But I am clear that it is vital and I will be working on it, then I will tell you about my experience in the future.)

After mentioning this to you, I want to show you…

What is the point of all this?

1. Increase your readers

Your content on Medium, well managed, makes the number of your readers always increase. Because of the daily visits, to your content with topics with relevant information, will increase the interest of your readers, in what you are going to write later.

This means that you will reach more and more people to whom you can present your content and that is always good news.

2.Grow your email list

Which newsletter platform is right for you?

So whether you’re just starting to build your brand as a writer or already have a loyal group of fans who keep asking what you’ve written lately, it’s time to consider growing an email list.

Here are some of the most popular email newsletter tools:

1.ConvertKit

For starters? Yes

Initial cost: Free

This service specializes in email services for bloggers and authors. Key features include the easy organization of sequenced courses, customizable automated messages, and integration with e-commerce platforms that bloggers prefer. Most users say that it is easier to use than the other platforms on this list, making it a good starting point for beginners.

ConvertKit recently launched a free plan, although free accounts do not have access to all features. If you want to send emails to your list, you will have to invite other new users to sign up or pay their initial fee of $ 29 / month.

Another cool feature of this platform is that you can create landing pages easily. That means you don’t even need to have a website for people to sign up for your list.

ConvertKit has been growing steadily since its launch in 2013.

(This is the one that I may be using, but after I make up my mind, I will write about my experience.)

2. MailChimp

For starters? Yes

Initial cost: Free

MailChimp is one of the most popular email services for startups. Some users think MailChimp is cute, but it can get clunky during the editing process. The big advantage is that it is free for up to 2,000 subscribers and 10,000 posts per month, making it easy to engage.

Even for users who are just starting an email list, a full-service program like MailChimp offers many options with room to grow.

If you want to send automated messages to your readers, known as autoresponders, you will have to pay. Add-ons start at $ 10 per month, with the “recommended” package priced at $ 14.99 per month.

3. TinyLetter

For starters? Yes

Initial cost: Free

TinyLetter is a MailChimp product and its focus on the text makes it a popular choice for writers. And unlike MailChimp, TinyLetter is completely free. The only downside: it has a limit of 5000 subscribers.

3.Build a relationship of trust with your readers

Think of your favorite blogs, those that you read frequently and whose new publications you are always on the lookout for. Somehow they are part of your life, right? There is a relationship between you and the blogger, even if you have never left a comment on the blog.

That trust is essential for your presence on Medium to work.

In the first place, because it allows you to know your ideal reader better so that each time you will be able to refine your content more and better focus it on their tastes and needs.

Second, because trust is essential when offering something else in the future, such as a book or a course. Before buying your book, your readers need to trust you. And that trust is achieved when you are part of their life through your content.

I hope this information can help you so that your personal brand as a writer on Medium is a success.
