An Unexpected Source of Writing Inspiration.
When we pay enough attention, we get inspiration

There are days where I run out of luck. This morning was one of those days. Do you know how it feels to be staring at a blank document for 30 minutes? I think you do. The only thing that moves is the second-hand of the clock and the flashing cursor.
For some reason, they are synchronous. They seem to be reminding me that it is time to give it a rest (for the day).
I did. I mean, there is no point wrestling with an empty mind. Right?
The weather is hot and humid this morning. A little rain brought further humidity when there is no wind. Being a resident of the equator, I do what I usually do.
I went to the eatery down the street for a cold drink. The eatery was rather unoccupied when I arrived, and I ordered a cup of iced coffee as I sat.
When the drink came, it took me less than 5 seconds to reduce the cup’s storage capacity to half. Maybe more than that. I was feeling hot.
As the water level subsides, ice cubes start showing. Just so suddenly, I got captivated by the ice cubes. I did imagine the dismay of the waiter who will have to clean up the puddle of water later before deciding to extract one from the cup.

That was for a split second. I extracted one ice cube anyway (sorry!).
And I watched the ice cube reduced in size over time. Naturally, it didn’t occur while I stared at it. While that did happen in Dubai — which is a civilization build on a desert, Singapore is much more bearable.
The ice cube reduced in size every time I had my attention on it. I was staring at the tree in front of me and then to the ice cube, then I watch people eating and back to the ice cube (diminished sightly), sipped a few mouthfuls of the coffee, and watched it again (a fraction is gone!).
I find this a marvel of nature. Things did not disappear due to human intervention. Things reduced in size because the Laws of Nature dictates so.
The ice cube inspired me to write something about it. But what about it?
Could it be about climate change? Maybe the melting polar ice caps? Or about the heat and humidity in the country I am living in?
I am not unsure. I only know that I have to write something about the mysteriously disappearing ice cube.
That might be the story for tomorrow as I have to allow the seed of writing germinate today. For now, let’s just say that the ice-cube saved my embarrassment for the day.
Inspiration is everywhere.
Even in a cup of iced coffee.
Wishing you the best of luck in writing,
Aldric
