An Overwatch 2 Hero Is Being Played Wrong, and It’s Working
The new hero Mauga has become more deadly with players misusing his ultimate ability.

I’ve covered lots of Overwatch stuff before — check the links below for those. But today, I wanna chat about the newest hero in Overwatch 2 and how players are making him deadlier by misusing his ultimate.
You know Overwatch 2? They’ve got this new hero called Mauga. He’s a Samoan tank, and man, people are hyped about him. Just dropped in December 2023 and already causing a ruckus.
Why? Well, he’s not your run-of-the-mill tank. Mauga comes with this ultimate move called Cage Fight. Picture this: a huge, tough tank with endless bullets, meant to trap enemies. Sounds straightforward, right?
But here’s the kicker: players are finding wild ways to use Mauga’s Cage Fight that no one saw coming. This Reddit user, arkLees, shared a clip of their gameplay that blew minds. They paired up Mauga’s cage with another character, Lifeweaver. What they did was set the cage on Lifeweaver’s Petal Platform, hanging mid-air near a ledge.
And get this: they didn’t activate the platform to rise. So, when the cage traps enemies and Lifeweaver scraps the platform, the cage plunges into the void, taking the trapped enemies down with it! Even if they’re standing on a ledge, they get pulled and squashed. Mauga, clever guy, manages to dodge the fall.
Sounds like a genius move, right? The Overwatch gang on Reddit went nuts watching this play. But, truth be told, it’s a tough trick to pull off solo in public games.
You’d need a Mauga-Lifeweaver dream team to make it work. And who knows, if this tactic catches on, the pros will crack the code on how to counter it. Plus, there are whispers that this tag team causes some bugs in certain maps.
Even if you’re not into these crazy plays, Mauga’s a solid choice for regular games. Blizzard’s really pushing him, buffing Mauga up in a recent Overwatch 2 patch to make him more viable in competitive scenes. But hey, since he’s the shiny new toy, you bet everyone’s itching to pick him first in public matches.
Final Words
See, Overwatch keeps evolving, adding heroes from all over, like Mauga representing Pacific Islander vibes.
It’s a game where creativity meets strategy, and players keep finding unexpected ways to blow our minds.
