Alternate Realities, Reincarnation and Time Travel
Spiritual prompt to inspire our fantasy and fiction writers
The Prompt:
Write a fiction, poem, essay, or creative nonfiction based on this passage of mine from my essays, Cosmic Strings of Time and No Physicist Has Yet To Understand the Concept of Time:
“I believe that souls are time travelers in that we can choose to improv-script our masterclasses at any point in time. I do not believe an already-lived life has to have taken place in the past nor that a yet-to-be-lived life has to take place in the future. I do not believe that the paradoxes of timeline crossing as discussed in science fiction present an issue. Each chosen setting is an alternate reality.”
The Genesis of My Quote:
A couple of months after my instantaneous spiritual awakening on 3/19/20, I decided to ask Ane, the psychic medium with whom I have had a deeply meaningful relationship since 2010, to channel my guides for the first time and I learned that my soul’s name is Marcus and that this is his/mine/our 17,043rd human incarnation, which we say to anyone reading this, is not a lot or at least not the vast amount that leads to the top levels, and I asked a question and received this explanation.
“Q: How many levels are there in heaven?
A: It is not so much levels, but rather, cycles. As one starts their journey from soul to soul with a body, you generally have easy lives. When you return to source/heaven/god after every lifetime, you will be given a choice to stay in that realm that you are put in or to go back to the master class [Earth] to attain a higher level. You can make the decision to return to the master class at any time. If you choose to go back to Earth, it would be for the specific requirement to have the goal of growing your soul to get to the next level, only you are not consciously aware of it once you incarnate.
Once you enter and complete a few lifetimes you will start to feel comfortable knowing where you want to ascend and with whom. That is where your community of spirits comes into play. We always come in with the same people/souls, lifetime after lifetime. There are about 80 to 120 of us together at any given lifetime. It is around this time where you the soul and collectively the community of spirits start to decide what level they want to attain and what price it will cost them on earth. Now you can understand that not everyone wants to attain nirvana as you say.
To attain nirvana, you would go on a completely different cycle, and that usually happens after a vast number of lifetimes lived. The lifetimes that you then start to choose to live are with great suffering. Think of the severely retarded, the severely mentally ill, POWs, people who have died violently at the hands of great evil, and even stillborns who give up their life experience for the host.¹
These life cycles will continue again and again and if you have lived your life according to our plan, will allow you to go to higher and higher levels. One obtains full enlightenment when there is nothing more for you to suffer — when there is nothing more for you to learn!
Then you would be in the realms with the great archetypes, messengers and guides, and archangels. You then would have an awesome burden and responsibility to heal those souls that remain on earth.”

To those who wonder how this could be Marcus’s 17,043rd human incarnation in the 300,000 or so year history of homo sapiens and how other souls (such as Frank Ontario) have experienced incomprehensibly more lifecycles, well, reconciling all that is how and why I came up with my theory.
In April 2021, in response to the day-2 prompt — A constant, cyclic state of growth and change — in Diana C.’s jump-in-at-anytime 30-in-30 poetry challenge, I wrote this tanka:
Live pass recycle Twixt man woman black white all Reincarnation Karmic intents purposes Souls work heavenly penance
The first line stands for the cycles of life as shown in this image. The second line stands for my experiential and revealed belief that our incarnations cover the entire human spectrum. In this life cycle, I incarnated as a white, privileged, Jewish male. In the already experienced life cycles (I no longer use the term past lives as we can set our lives in any time frame) of which my spirit guides and highest power have made me aware, I have lived as a male black slave, a white slave-trader, a female black slave, a gang-raped middle eastern woman, and a white male airline pilot in Pan Am’s glory days.
The fourth line evokes that the purpose of life is learning. The fifth line concerns the periods between lifetimes in heaven. After the grueling yet rewarding moral and ethical inventory of life review, our guides, us and God determine in which level of the spirit realm (heaven) we shall reside until we may next incarnate for another master class. Then we engage in soul work for the benefit of others as part of our continued spiritual growth and also as penance for mistakes made in the Earth realm.

¹These words, “and even stillborns who give up their life experience for the host,” have partially shaped my thoughts on the abortion debate. I have come to believe that human life begins at conception yet I remain 100% pro-choice because, in addition to the bedrock constitutional principle of separation of church and state, I realized that the unborn child does not need the protection of human laws because if it is not to be born due to any cause, the incarnated soul agreed in its soul contract never to take a breath.
