Summary

A movement called HI (Human Intelligence) is being initiated on Medium, where writers pledge to use their human intelligence over AI in their stories, particularly on Mondays in 2024, to emphasize the importance of human creativity and discuss the implications of AI.

Abstract

The HI Movement on Medium is a collective effort by nearly 300 writers to prioritize human intelligence in their writing, challenging the rise of AI-generated content. This initiative, which includes weekly contributions every Monday, aims to explore the significance of human creativity and intellect, as well as the broader impact of AI on society, intellectual property, and the future of writing. The movement is supported by contests, a book deal, and periodic updates of participating writers, with the goal of making AI vs. HI the most-read topic on Mondays and fostering a deeper understanding of the interplay between artificial and human intelligence.

Opinions

  • The authors believe that original content crafted by human writers is crucial and that readers expect and value this authenticity.
  • There is a concern that AI, in its quest for knowledge, may infringe on the intellectual property rights of creators by using their content to feed its algorithms.
  • The movement acknowledges the potential consequences of AI on various

WELCOME

Today and then, every Monday in 2024, writers all across Medium, involving many publications, will be writing about AI vs. HI (artificial intelligence vs. human intelligence).

WHO

Nearly 300 writers on Medium (listed below) have pledged to use HI, human intelligence instead of AI, in their stories, articles, and posts here on Medium. They believe that Medium writers and, in fact, any reader expect original creative content from the writer.

WHAT & When — AI vs. HI

Like any campaign for social change, it will require massive effort. Every piece written will be 100% human intelligence. Our goals are very clear:

  1. To bring global attention to the importance of HI (human intelligence).
  2. To explore all aspects of AI use and its effects on humankind.

Not all writers will write every Monday on this AI vs HI subject. However, the number of writers grows with each passing day. Our goal here is that #AI vs HI will be THE most-read topic on Monday.

With every piece written comes greater understanding and knowledge.

WHERE

By design, each writer submits to the publication they feel most comfortable with. This will give us the longest and widest reach.

The hashtag used will be #AI vs HI. You’re already able to find many posts using #AI, #HI, and #writing.

WHY

Last week, the New York Times sued one of the major software purveyors of AI. Their point is the source of AI. You are a writer. Your content is your Intellectual Property (IP). You are its creator.

In order to perform, the “food” sought out by AI bots to feed the knowledge base of any AI software is the IP from us, creative content writers. The bots search for organizations or someplace where IP is stored. Once their AI software has been fed, the algorithm uses a portion of the IP gathered to fulfill the request.

What will all of this lead to? What are the ramifications to our everyday lives as individuals, families, schools, industry, our judicial system, healthcare, and many other areas of importance in our everyday lives?

What will it cost you personally?

Stories that are AI-generated and published on medium or anywhere we writers write take readers away from us.

This CAUSE deserves your attention and participation. Please participate.

Contests And A Book Deal

Read about the contest for articles here:

Here’s the information on the book from our Editor in Chief, Dr. Gabriella Korosi:

Depository

When writers submit articles, stories, or posts and put as one of their five topics, AI vs HI, those articles will appear here:

If I’m tagged in the body of the story, say at the very bottom, then I’m notified, and I’ll add the story to the library:

PREVIEW

Our objective is to provide resources for writers. We are accumulating names of people who are committing to using HI. You can add your name in the comments (please). It will only be listed once a quarter.

Here’s my personal statement:

For a list of articles, stories, and posts on this subject, you can click on any writer’s name (below) and look for their fairly recent stories. You can send an email to [email protected], and we’ll add you (via Bcc) to our periodic email list containing story locations and resources. We’ll also add your name to the list.

We’ve arranged a book deal with Dancing Elephant Press. From all the stories submitted in the month of January, a panel of AI vs HI writers will select thirty-one (31) stories for inclusion. All writers in the book will participate in the profits.

We have a contest with cash prizes for January and August (details to follow in a subsequent post).

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

A campaign like this doesn’t just put itself together. Let’s begin by acknowledging the writer who first discussed HI, Conceivably Me. Victoria Kjos is the person who brought me and nearly all of the writers (below).

WRITERS TO DATE — We won’t put this on anything but a quarterly update. This list will be updated as writers request their names on the list.
