Parc Jura Vaudoise

A sweet early-spring promenade in the Jura forests of the Swiss canton of Vaud

Join me as I walk you through a day-long but easy walk through the forests in the Swiss canton of Vaud.

The French name of Vaud comes from the German word for forest, Wald. This canton’s modern German name is indeed Waadt. The reference to forests in the name of this canton has an obvious origin: these lands are rather flat and filled with dense forests, surrounded all around by the Jura mountains, the Alps, and Lac Leman.

Many of the best-conserved forests in canton Vaud are near the Jura chain of mountains, where this story takes place.

Starting from La Sarraz walking upstream toward Croy and Romainmotier

Forests are just waking up from their hibernation:

That’s why the pale green in the leaves of the trees:

However, smaller plants sprouted earlier, and are already deep green and full of flowers. This was, indeed, a hike full of flowers:

The one above dominated the access to the Nozon river, on our way upstream towards the waterfall:

These were other flowers we could easily spot:

And Anemonoides still everywhere:

This next one is not wild; it was planted in the entry to a small garden built by locals inside the forest:

Unfortunately, the garden still lacks colors. But you can be sure that I will pass by again soon to check if its plants bloomed!

Ending the circuit through Ferreyres and the Tine de Conflens

A flowering tree as we enter the small town of Ferreyres:

Most of the green is actually the wild garlic, which I featured in two recent stories:

Here and there, the forest opens into deep-green fields of grass

This one was dominated by dandelions:

Ending by the Tine de Conflens
