A Spotlight On Success Stories
Here’s Your Chance To Achieve Curation

It’s an opportunity for writers who haven’t been curated to shine as well.
It’s been a whirlwind of growth here at Illumination. In a very short time, we have become a publication with 30,000 followers and 3600 + writers.
As a senior editor, I’ve sometimes struggled with how quickly we’ve expanded. It can be overwhelming when you don’t have the big picture. All you can do is trust in the vision and hang on, making a difference in your piece of the pie.
One change that I’m particularly proud of is the work we’ve done to streamline operations and support our editors. We changed our submission requirements, effective 01/09/2020.
This new publication is a leap to another level.
As a publication, editors are going to select high-quality stories and recommend them for curation into Illumination-Curated.
What does that mean for you?
- When you submit your story to Illumination, it will be reviewed and published if it meets our new submission guidelines. That hasn’t changed.
- If an editor really loves it and it meets the guidelines for the new publication, it will move to the next level.
- This will be an objective process, with specific criteria to meet, but because we’re human, if you engage us with an amazing idea or a thoughtful, well-written article, it will have a better chance of being selected.
- At this point, editors will respond to a poll that will determine whether or not the story will be curated into Illumination-Curated.
Curation won’t depend on algorithms. It will be actual human beings that make the selection.
Yesterday, I had a poem selected for inclusion in the new publication.
Today it was distributed to #Poetry on Medium.
Coincidence? Possibly.
It’s the first example of a positive result for the new publication. Here’s the poem:
I Speak My Truth in Simple Thoughts
A poem about the struggle to speak out and how we sometimes let ourselves be bound to one another’s wishes.
Distributed to #Poetry by Medium, Curated by Illumination-Curated
Now, this might sound like a slam dunk, but it’s not going to be a simple achievement.
The key to a meaningful conversation includes both speaking and listening.
A meaningful conversation between writers includes reading, responding, sharing and appreciation
Please ensure your submission meets these Publication Guidelines to ensure it is eligible for publication.
We look forward to your submission.
