I had the honour of being a “celebrity” judge for an incredible fund-raising “dancing with the stars” inspired gala last year. I was soooooooooooooo excited!

Finally, an event where no amount of sparkle is ever too much! GRIN.

I pulled out my favourite black sequined dress. Rhinestone cuff bracelets on both arms. (Of course!) A giant sparkly ring. A glittering necklace and sparkly shoes. I was set!

The ballroom was stunning. People arrived dressed to the 9’s. Tuxes. Formal military attire. Ballgowns. And, my fellow fans of sparkle…came out in droves.

The event organizer was clear with her direction to the judges:

Be kind and have fun.

The 4-person judging panel was made up of two professional ballroom dancers and two of us who had a basic idea of the difference between a waltz and a cha-cha. (Actually, that might be a stretch. HA.)

Each amateur competitor was paired with a professional dancer. Just like the show.

They practiced for months. Nerves were high.

They didn’t disappoint. The costumes were beautiful. The dancers performed incredibly well.

The mirror ball went to a amazing dancer, who is a nurse and she just happened to be 7 months pregnant. The audience gasped at her moves.

She won over the crowd. And, the judges. She was a star.

She pushed the seemingly impossible. High kicks. Splits. Spins.

And the grand finale? She. Did. The. Splits. GASP.

I was thrilled I’d saved a Ginger Rogers quote just for her,

“I did everything he did. But, backwards. And, in heels.”…and I added the obvious — pregnant.

Take a look. You’ll be inspired.

Which leads me back to YOU.

Where can you push the seemingly impossible in your career?

Go there for a minute.

I posed that exact question in my latest book, “ Unexpected Mentors. Weird & Creative Ideas To Boost Your Career.”

What’s the “ seemingly impossible” career goal simmering in the back of your mind?

Go there. Is it really all THAT impossible?

Just when you think, “ well, that’s not realistic ” or “ no one has ever done that ”. Think of the 7-month pregnant woman who raised a pile of cash for a charity, did high kicks, the splits and won the coveted mirror ball.

GRIN.
