4 Unforgettable Interview Tips Inspired By Billy Idol.
How to conduct a job interview like a rock star!

I love concerts. During the summer in my home city in Canada, there are always some incredible shows.
All concerts, of course, were canceled this year….which made me reminisce about last year — pre-COVID.
The talent lineup was amazing for a full afternoon and evening concert event…
Billy Idol, Blondie, Doug & The Slugs along with some 90s sex pistol type angry band. HA. That was my cue to hit the bathroom and bar line up.
The highlight was Billy Idol.
Sidebar 1: I think he should be my next husband. We could share hair products. GRIN.
Sidebar 2: I was seeing a new hairstylist a few weeks ago. She said, OK, we need to make your hair a little less Billy Idol. I had to laugh as she was kind of right.
Back to Billy…
I got to see him, along with 40,000 other raving fans.
He’s still got it.
The hair.
The sneer.
The jackets… and fabulous boots.
And, yes, at 63 he did a few numbers sans shirt.
He hit the music scene a very longgggggg time ago. And he continues to sell-out venues decades later.
Every hiring manager could take a few lessons from Billy Idol’s playbook for interviews:
- High energy: Billy hit the stage and didn’t stop for 2 solid hours. While you don’t want to have a 2-hour interview, prepare to hit your interview in a high energy way.
2. Deliver a consistent brand for your company: We all knew exactly what to expect from Billy. He’s consistent, and it’s his brand.
Can you imagine Billy Idol (or I) showing up with flat hair? Or brown hair, rather than edgy blonde? GRIN. Back to you — ensure your interviews portray the brand of your organization.
3. Well- rehearsed: Billy has sung his hits a million times over. They are beyond well-rehearsed.
Your interviews should be the same. While you might not know every question off the top of your head, it should flow very naturally.
4. Not dull: HA. He’s certainly not dull.
Neither should your interviews be. If you’re asking, “Tell me about your strengths & weaknesses”. That’s. Dull. (Pick up a copy of “Hired!” and go to page 87 and read some good questions to ask.)
