The Weirdness of One Clap.

Is it really another way of giving a “slow clap”? GRIN

I’m a type A personality. Driven for results in both my business and personal life. I’m extremely motivated by rewards — claps, comments and highlights are HUGE rewards! I aim for my stories to give insight and in most cases — a bit of a chuckle as a bonus.

I LOVE seeing who has engaged, highlighted, commented and clapped for my articles.

I’ll engage back. Follows, comments, highlights and claps.

I’m new on the platform — I just started writing in late November. I’m still learning. I’ve met some other really inspiriting, cool writers.

I’ve picked up a thing or two from those I closely follow.

There are authors who are consistent at giving 50 claps. Every. Single. Time. I’m grateful for those followers.

I’m grateful for my network of readers who always clap up a storm, highlight and often leave comments. Know that I’m smiling from ear-to-ear, when I see you’ve responded to my story.

I see the same names on multitudes of stories. Always clapping, highlighting and commenting. You’ve set the bar on what it is to be an engaged fellow writer. Thank for your mentorship on how to be a good community member on Medium.

I find the number of claps interesting.

50 claps — I interpret this as — I loved your article.

Everyone loves receiving a big 50.

If you receive less than 50, what does that mean?

Is there a secret ranking system I’ve yet to discover?

If you receive between 30 and 40, does that mean that your article was good, but not worthy of 50?

What does 47 claps say?

Or what about 49 claps? Ohhhhhhh, your story was really good, but just not enough for that final clap? GRIN. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee leave the author a note on what they could have done to earn that one final clap?

Then there’s random number of claps — 26 for instance. Was it a mediocre story? Just over a “pass” if we were to turn it into a percentage — that would be 52%. Phew, it’s a pass, but loads of room for improvement on the next story.

Here’s my burning BIG question.

What on earth does 1 clap mean?

Is it an undertone to say, “Yeah, maybe try harder next time?” HA.

Does one clap really mean a “slow clap? HA. Everyone knows a slow-clap isn’t a good thing. GRIN.

Do the one clappers think you’ve only got 50 claps to give in a month? In which case, whoaaaaaaaaaa, a single clap is then HUGE!

Maybe their mouse sticks? And, they think they’re clapping up a storm, but sadly only leaving that one lonely clap.

I’d love your thoughts on the one clappers. What do you think it really means?

Until then, I’m finding the humour (yes, I’m Canadian….we leave the U’s in words) in it all. Here’s hoping you all have a 50 clap kind of day on all of your stories!
