Drabble Story Arc #2: Seek and Avenge

A Discovery by the Riverbank

A chapter of a ‘choose your own’ story — drabble edition.

This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. The whole thing begins with ‘The Burned Village’ by JF Danskin. If you want to head back to the previous chapter, click here. And find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

“No thanks,” you say to Dara. “No time — my family are suffering!”

Without waiting for a response, you flee, passing the smoldering village ruins at pace. As you reach a river, you pause, breathing hard.

Just then, you notice something gleaming on the riverbank.

You move closer. It’s an armored traveller—still as stone. You shake him, feel for a pulse…

Nothing. He’s dead.

Another victim of the orcs, perhaps?

At least the armor could fit you… You put it on, and take his sword and bow. What luck! Loyalty is rewarded, it seems.

You press on into the forest.

Next, you decide that you need to…

  1. Hunt for food (click here).
  2. Press on without delay, looking for signs of the orcs (click here).

This is a collaborative story, with each part (not including choices and blurb) written in a 100-word drabble. Many thanks to those who have written chapters on this overall story arc recently, including Jonathon Sawyer, J.C. Lovero, and Mojave Green.

The section in the town is close to complete (this chapter is a good recent point to jump in), and things are coming along very well in the forest, too. I’m looking forward to how the last few sections come together!
