Summary

"Drabble Story Arc #2: Seek and Avenge" is a participatory narrative on the ReadMedium platform where readers can contribute to the ongoing story of a character seeking vengeance and truth about an orc invasion connected to the enigmatic figure Zaroph.

Abstract

The narrative, titled "The Legacy of Zaroph," is part of a 'choose your own' adventure story format known as the drabble edition, where each contribution is a succinct 100-word piece. The protagonist, after encountering deceit, demands information regarding the orcs' connections within the village from a moneychanger. The moneychanger reveals that a group of merchants hired Zaroph, a skilled ranger and the protagonist's estranged childhood friend, to infiltrate the forest orcs. Zaroph's involvement with the orcs who attacked the village raises suspicions. The protagonist decides to confront the merchants, offering to trade a ring for information and equipment to combat the orcs. Readers are invited to continue the story by contributing chapters or providing suggestions in the comments. Additionally, the website provides a collection of writing prompts by JF Danskin to inspire potential storytellers.

This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. The whole thing begins with ‘The Burned Village’ by JF Danskin. You can also head back to one of the previous chapters: ‘A New Ally?’ by Rayne Sanning or ‘Red Mist at the Moneylender’s Shack’ by JF Danskin. Or find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

“Enough lies and manipulation,” you snap, advancing on the moneychanger again. “Tell me everything about people in the village who’re connected to the orcs.”

He flinches. “Well, a group of merchants hired Zaroph…”

“Zaroph the Ranger?” you interrupt.

The man nods. “The forester and spy. He infiltrated the forest orcs. Won their trust.”

You hesitate. Zaroph was your childhood friend, but hates you now… and by extension your village. And now it seems that he worked with the orc attackers…

Wtf?

“If these merchants need this ring, take me there. I’ll trade for information, plus equipment to fight the orcs.”

Continue.

This is a collaborative story. Please feel free to join in and add a chapter, furthering the story in any way you like. Each main part of the story (not including choices and blurb) should be a 100-word drabble. Or drop suggestions in the comments!
