A Clan System Is Coming to PUBG
You can double your XP when fighting with clanmates.

In various previous stories, I have discussed different types of video game updates. These will be linked at the end of this post. In this post, I will introduce PUBG, as well as this new clan system being added.
A Brief Introduction to PUBG?
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is a popular online multiplayer battle royale game that revolutionized the gaming industry since its release in 2017.
Developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of the South Korean video game company Bluehole, PUBG quickly gained worldwide attention and amassed a massive player base. The game’s concept, gameplay mechanics, and impact on the gaming community have made it an iconic title.
At its core, PUBG drops players onto a large, open-world map where they compete against each other in a fight for survival.
Up to 100 players parachute onto the map, starting with minimal gear and resources, and then scavenge for weapons, ammunition, equipment, and vehicles to increase their chances of survival. The objective is simple yet challenging: be the last person or team standing.
Initially inspired by the 2000 Japanese film “Battle Royale,” the game’s map is meticulously designed, offering diverse landscapes such as cities, rural areas, forests, and military bases.
These locations are scattered with loot, providing players with a sense of exploration and risk-reward decision-making. The constantly shrinking play area, also known as the “circle” or “zone,” adds intensity and forces players into tighter encounters, ensuring the game’s pace remains dynamic.
The gameplay in PUBG is immersive and realistic, emphasizing tactical decision-making and strategic gameplay. Players can choose to play solo, duo, or in a team of four, allowing for various team compositions and cooperative strategies. Communication and coordination are essential, as players must work together to outmaneuver opponents and claim victory.
PUBG’s gunplay and combat mechanics are a significant part of its appeal. The game offers a vast arsenal of weapons, ranging from pistols to assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and melee weapons.
Each weapon has unique characteristics, including recoil patterns, bullet drop, and damage output, adding depth and skill-based mechanics to the gameplay. Players must master the mechanics of shooting, aiming, and positioning to gain an advantage over their adversaries.
Furthermore, PUBG’s realistic ballistics system and attachment mechanics allow players to customize their weapons with scopes, muzzle attachments, grips, and more. These modifications can greatly influence weapon performance, catering to different play styles and personal preferences.
Additionally, the game features a wide range of throwable items, including grenades and Molotov cocktails, which can be used strategically to flush out opponents or create diversions.
PUBG’s success can be attributed to its ability to create intense and adrenaline-pumping moments. Every match is a unique experience, filled with tension, uncertainty, and exhilaration.
The blend of exploration, looting, and high-stakes combat creates a captivating gameplay loop that keeps players engaged for hours on end.
The game’s impact on the gaming industry is remarkable. It popularized the battle royale genre, inspiring numerous other developers to create their own iterations of the concept.
PUBG’s success also propelled the growth of esports, with competitive tournaments and leagues attracting millions of viewers worldwide. The game’s competitive scene has become a platform for talented players to showcase their skills and compete for substantial prize pools.
PUBG’s influence extended beyond the gaming realm. It has become a cultural phenomenon, with players from diverse backgrounds and regions coming together to enjoy the shared experience.
The game’s popularity led to various adaptations, including merchandise, streaming, cosplay, and even a mobile version to cater to a wider audience.
What is PUBG’s clan system?
Krafton, the publisher of the groundbreaking battle royale game PUBG, has revealed plans to introduce a clan system. This new feature will allow players to create and join groups of up to 100, bringing a range of social and progression systems.
According to a press release from Krafton, players with Battlegrounds Plus accounts can create clans by simply clicking on the clan button in the lobby. Once a clan is created, various features such as clan search, chat, and notifications will be available.
The administration of clans will be handled by a “clan master” and a “manager.” However, it seems questionable whether having just two individuals overseeing a potential group of 100 players will be sufficient.
Joining a PUBG clan goes beyond socializing with like-minded players. Clans will have their own progression system, with ranks ranging from level 1 to 20.
This progression will be represented by an unlockable clan tag that will upgrade over time. Importantly, players who engage in battles alongside their clan members will receive a double XP bonus and a 30% BP (Battle Points) bonus.
Taeseok Jang, PUBG’s executive producer, explained, “We have introduced the clan system starting with the 23.2 test server update to foster a sense of belonging and ultimately heighten player satisfaction.”
However, it can be argued that PUBG may require more than just a clan system to enhance the sense of belonging, as the game’s relatively subdued personality compared to livelier battle royale titles like Fortnite and Apex hasn’t hindered its enduring popularity.
As Fraser reported recently, PUBG has achieved “record quarterly sales” of $407.8 million, boasting an “all-time high in in-game sales,” further demonstrating its strong player base.
Nonetheless, PUBG’s player count has remained relatively stagnant, with an average of 4–500,000 players. This could reflect the game’s lack of eye-catching new features to attract a larger player base.
It remains uncertain whether the introduction of the clan system will significantly impact these numbers, but the game’s reception to the wholesale implementation of this feature will provide more clarity.
Krafton’s announcement of the clan system for PUBG introduces an exciting new feature for players. The ability to form and join clans of up to 100 players will enhance social interactions within the game. In contrast, the progression system and bonuses for clan battles will provide additional incentives.
Although the game’s popularity has remained strong, the clan system’s introduction may help PUBG attract new players and foster a greater sense of belonging among its community. Time will tell how successful this addition will be and whether it will contribute to the game’s continued growth.
Final Words & Takeaways
The introduction of a clan system in PUBG is an exciting development for players.
This feature allows for creating and joining clans with up to 100 players, offering enhanced social interactions and a progression system.
Players can form bonds and enjoy bonuses while battling alongside their clan members.
The clan system aims to foster a sense of belonging and increase player satisfaction.
While PUBG has maintained its popularity, the game’s player count has plateaued, possibly due to a lack of compelling new features.
It remains to be seen if the clan system will significantly impact attracting new players and further engaging the existing player base.
Nevertheless, Krafton’s initiative demonstrates a commitment to evolving PUBG and cultivating a stronger community among its players.
