7 Clever Ideas to Use What You Have to Earn a Side Hustle

No Money Required + Passive Income Ideas

Photo by Anjo Clacino on Unsplash

Wouldn’t it be great to start a side hustle without having to invest? It can be done.

And, there are plenty of no-startup side hustle ideas to choose from.

I’m going to cover 7 of them with you today, including some passive income makers.

Before I dive in, here are some quick start money-making ideas you can do right now.

  • Cliqly: Done-for-you email marketing. Signup to Cliqly for free, get prewritten emails you send to an email list given to you by Cliqly. Earn ten cents on each click. I’ve seen screenshots from users making $1,000 to $2,000+ from Cliqly. They have a referral program too. I’ve earned just under $1K so far. My review.
  • Nielsen Mobile Panel: A passive income opportunity that earns you money when you install the Nielsen app on your mobile device. They offer other ways to make money, too.
  • Arrived Homes: This one does require investing. It’s fractional share real estate investing in rental homes. It’s good if you want to diversify your investments and break into rental home investing without having to get a full mortgage. My review.

Ok, onto the list!

7 No-Startup Side Hustles to Try

You don’t need money to start a side hustle. Use the skills you already have to land some extra cash in your pocket with a money-making side hustle. Here’s the list…

1. Online panels

You get paid for your opinion. These work kind of like surveys but, they’re longer and they are higher paying.

Expect to earn up to $20 to $400 per panel.

Two companies that offer these are: User Interviews and Respondent

I’ve personally done this with each company making around $100 each time.

Potential: Some nice side hustle money I think but, this isn’t for recurring, consistent income. If you’re lucky enough to get selected a few times a year, that’d be great. So, one-off income but, still a cool opportunity.

2. Pinterest affiliate marketing

Refer affiliate programs on Pinterest. Drive traffic to your offers and earn commissions.

I do this!

I do this with Pinterest, Medium, and other platforms. Pinterest is so untapped. It’s the perfect platform to do affiliate marketing but, you have to do it right so your account doesn’t get suspender.

  • Never link an afffiliate link directly in a pin
  • Don’t spam your content
  • Be consistent

After creating your Pinterest account, you’ll make Pinterest pins linked to affiliate offers (the right way) using a landing page and other methods, and make commissions on successful referrals.

I wrote an ebook on Pinterest affiliate marketing to break down the process in a beginner-friendly way.

This can have a learning curve but, I think it’s easy enough for anybody can do. Give this a good effort, so at least 3 months to see what your results are like.

3. Write and sell ebooks

With the presence of AI writing tools, it’s easier than ever to create an ebook fast and sell it online.

You can use Pinterest to sell it in the same way you do Pinterest affiliate marketing, except you’ll refer your ebook!

You can also market via:

  • TikTok
  • YouTube
  • Email marketing
  • Influencers
  • Medium
  • Craigslist

I do this and use Gumroad to sell my book. I use a few different platforms for marketing, too.

4. Music curation

Perfect for music lovers, you can use your talent for curating awesome music and make money with it!

The platform? Playlist Push

Playlist Push

Here’s what the creator signup form looks like:

Playlist Push

Sign up as a creator and get paid for discovering cool music.

Playlist Push

I don’t have any experience with this personally but, it looks like a fun way to make money. If you’re a creator on TikTok, there’s an opportunity to make money that way too!

5. Charge scooters

You might have seen this on TikTok or elsewhere on the web. Be a fleet manager and get paid for charging Bird scooters.

Bird

They had verbiage displayed in the past reading that you could earn $1,500 a week or $1,500 a month, I can’t remember, just for charging these scooters.

This is ideal for people who have a vehicle to carry Bird scooters. They have other requirements and a list of what you’ll need, on the site.

If you want a side hustle that gets you out and about and not tucked away behind a computer, this might be a good one to try.

6. Facebook Marketplace Flipping

This one can get addicting but, it can be a lot of fun. Sell stuff around your house on Facebook Marketplace.

  • Small appliances
  • Home decor
  • Clothes
  • Electronics

Post on the marketplace, connect with prospective buyers, and sell your stuff. It’s a good way to clear clutter from your home and you can flip some goods for a profit.

Some people will source goods cheap and sell them on Facebook Marketplace like brand new small appliances or cell phones on clearance or at a good deal and earn a full-time income.

I have never done this but, I have sold my stuff on Ebay, Mercari, and Poshmark. Kind of similar but, all online instead of meeting face to face like what most people experience on Facebook Marketplace.

7. Sell on Mercari

This is like selling on Facebook Marketplace but, on the Mercari platform. I like Mercari a lot because they have a page that shows you what’s hot and selling.

It’s helpful to sellers who don’t know what customers want right now.

For a long time, Rae Dunn coffee mugs were hot! You could buy them for $6 at TJMaxx or Homegoods and sell them for $20 a pop on Amazon, Mercari and other places online.

Many people still do this!

Passive income makers

Now, here are some passive income makers you can try.

Blogging

This is about writing online around a core topic to a specific audience. Gardening, finance, travel, and parenting are some examples of niches you can build your blog around.

Ideally, you want to pick a topic you’re passionate about. That’ll make it easy to create tons of content for your blog.

Blogging is a mixed bag. It’s fun, it’s an outlet, you get to connect with an audience and experience other cool perks including passive income.

But, income usually doesn’t start happening for bloggers right away.

It can take weeks, months, sometimes years for bloggers to make money. My first blog started earning in month 2 and within 4 months I was making four figures a month.

I’ve seen bloggers go from zero to four figures on new blogs in 1–2 months or faster.

Others have taken years to earn their first $100.

Don’t let this discourage you. Nobody knows what your blogging fate will be. If you have time to invest in a project like blogging, I’d go for it. It can change your life. There are top bloggers out there that get the full benefits for blogging:

  • Unlimited income
  • Travel when you want
  • Work from home
  • Design your dream work schedule

Adam Enfroy and Michelle Schroeder-Gardner are both examples and they each make up to $100K+ per month from their blogs.

Selling courses

This is like selling ebooks but, courses are longer and more drawn out. They are harder to make too but, can be very rewarding.

I sell courses with the Teachable platform. I’ve made over $20K from course sales.

You can make money right from the start with course selling, if you have an audience. Make a course on your passion, create it, and sell it.

After the upfront work, enjoy passive income.

Onto You!

You just read 7 side hustles that don’t require a startup investment.

What do you think of these?

Have you tried any?

Would you?

Note: Affiliate links are in this article which means if you click a link and make a purchase, I earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
