đŸ”„ 5 Surprising Mac Features that I Recently Discovered and Can’t Go Back Now!

I had no idea these features existed!

1. Change the Color of the Mouse Cursor!

While it’s been a thing on Windows for ages, Mac users have been typically stuck with the default mouse cursor. There’s nothing wrong with it, but sometimes you want a little variety. Guess what? Apple has added this feature in macOS, but it’s located in a settings menu that’s really irrelevant and hard to find:

2. Speed Up Dragging

When dragging a file, macOS allows you to keep pressing the mouse button and wait to open folders to navigate to the destination folder. It’s nice, but could be slow. Today I learnt that we can make this much faster and smoother. See the gifs below for before and after:

3. Hot Corners

Corners of the screen can be used to do certain system actions. This has greatly improved the user experience for me!

4. Easily Import Photos/Scanned Documents

When working on Mac, sometimes you need to quickly snap a photo or scan a document by your iPhone/iPad and transfer it to Mac. Normally, you’d take a photo and Airdrop it to Mac. But macOS has made it even easier now. See below:

5. Open Terminal at Current Folder

If you’re using terminal, then you know how frustrating it is when you want to navigate to any specific folder. There are many ways to make that easier, but perhaps one of the best ones is to use a combination of GUI and terminal.

macOS provides a service to open a new terminal tab in the current folder/directory. It also works on third-party terminal apps like Kitty.

Alternatively, you can press CMD-OPTION-C to copy any file/folder’s path, which is really nice.

  • Thanks to a comment in the HN post, you can just use “Copy” in the Finder, then paste in Terminal, and Terminal will use the path. You can also drag from the Finder into the Terminal.
